Overview

We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to provide consulting services requiring electrical engineering expertise for insurance, legal, industrial, and other clients. The candidate will assess and determine the cause and origin of electrical failures and damages, as well as provide oral and written reports of findings and, when needed, provide expert testimony. The candidate may be responsible for project management and technical oversight of multiple projects. Additionally, the candidate will evaluate and review design and field engineering changes, ensure work quality and adherence to specifications, and perform related duties as assigned. This position is located in Los Angeles, CA.

The salary range for this position is $119,700 - $179,500 and is dependent on education, experience, location, and certifications/licensure.

  • The candidate will assess and determine the cause and origin of electrical failures and damages, as well as provide oral and written reports of findings and, when needed, provide expert testimony.

Essential Job Functions
  • Perform forensic assignments within the field of electrical engineering based upon a scope of work and budget prepared by the consultant and agreed upon by the client in advance of performing the work.
  • Field Investigations: Study and determine the cause and origin of electrical defects and/or damage.
  • Support fire investigation experts in determining the electrical causes.
  • Produce written forensic reports of findings detailing the cause and origin of electrical defects and/or damage.
  • Manage multiple projects. Work in conjunction with other team members to produce client reports in a timely manner.
  • Use appropriate equations, applications, and figures to ensure proper cause-and-effect analyses. Must be proficient in using electrical and equipment testing applications, drafting and design software, land surveying techniques, and the metric system, as well as other related tools and programs.
  • Follows land use laws and regulations and ensures compliance with electrical code regulations and standards.
  • Assists with the junior-level engineer mentoring/integration program.
  • Ability to initiate, develop, and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships.
Required Education and Certifications
  • BS Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience
  • California PE license required
  • Independent judgment, strong analytical skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills are requirements in this position.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Must have a high level of analytical skills. Work requires continual attention to detail with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must be able to interact and communicate with clients at all levels (e.g., internal and external).
  • Must know a variety of computer software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office applications and computer-assisted engineering and design software.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret standard scientific and technical reports or journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to clearly and coherently write scopes-of-work, budget estimates, schedules, reports of findings, proposals, general correspondence, and other technical documents.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries from internal and external clients.
  • Capable of effectively presenting information to top management, clients, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
