Job summary

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Food Safety, seeks an Environmental Specialist III to oversee regulatory inspections of food establishments across central Florida counties.

You will evaluate sanitation practices using science-based and risk-based approaches, prepare inspection reports, initiate corrective actions, and coordinate with federal and state agencies to protect public health.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years experience in environmental protection, regulation, health, natural sciences, or engineering
• Alternatively: High school diploma and 1.5 years as Environmental Specialist I or higher with State of Florida
• Alternatively: Bachelor's degree or higher from accredited college and 6 months relevant experience
• Valid driver license required
• Must pass and maintain food establishment inspection certification within 12 months
• Must reside in specified area (Alachua, Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Lake, Marion, Orange, Pasco, Putnam, Seminole, Sumter, or Volusia County)

Responsibilities

• Conduct regulatory inspections of food establishments for compliance with sanitation, consumer protection, and regulatory requirements under Florida Statutes.
• Prepare inspection reports and initiate corrective actions.
• Investigate complaints and coordinate with federal and state agencies.
