Job summary

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Food Safety, seeks an Environmental Specialist III to conduct regulatory inspections of food manufacturing and distribution facilities in the state of Florida.

The role includes training inspectors on food safety compliance, developing and implementing training programs, and serving as a technical advisor to management and industry personnel.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of experience in environmental protection, regulation, health, physical/natural sciences, or engineering.
• OR 1.5 years of experience as Environmental Specialist I or higher with State of Florida.
• OR Bachelor's degree or higher plus 6 months of experience in applicable field.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Must pass and maintain food safety training and certification (basic and advanced) within 12 months of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regulatory inspections of food manufacturing and distribution establishments.
• Train inspectors on food safety compliance and develop training programs.
• Serve as a technical advisor to management and industry personnel.
• Perform field audits, review inspection reports, and collect samples under state and FDA contracts.
