Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems in Cambridge, MA is seeking a Senior R&D Test Engineer to develop novel fluid systems for R&D test stands, with a focus on magnet testing and challenging environments. You will design, build, and operate fluid systems across test facilities and support SPARC/ARC projects.

The role requires hands-on thermofluid experience, proficiency with ANSYS, COMSOL, Python and MATLAB, and strong collaboration with R&D, production, and procurement teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, process engineering or closely related field.
• 7+ years of experience in engineering of integrated fluid/mechanical systems.
• Experience with large-scale thermofluid systems and tanks, piping, pumps, valves, heat exchangers.

Responsibilities

• Design fluid systems for test stands meeting objectives; solicit interfacing team feedback.
• Develop de-risking strategies and optimize design for simplicity.
• Perform hand calculations and run ANSYS/COMSOL simulations for margins.
• Procure off-the-shelf components, draft specs, and design custom fluid components.
• Coordinate build and commissioning of fluid systems with engineers and technicians.
• Design instrumentation and automation for safe operations.
