Job summary

Shield AI in San Diego, CA seeks a Flight Integration Engineer to deploy autonomy software on unmanned aircraft, validate systems, and support field tests in dynamic environments.

You will own pre-flight preparation, coordinate hardware/software compatibility, and ensure mission readiness while collaborating with autonomy, GNC, systems, and test teams. The role requires travel; combat-tested solutions and real-world flight demos are common.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years with a bachelor’s, or 4 years with a master’s, or 2 years with PhD.
• Proficiency in C++ and Python; RTOS experience.
• Linux-based development; embedded systems and diagnostics.
• Sensor fusion, middleware (ROS, DDS); real flight/demo experience.

Responsibilities

• System Integration & Deployment on unmanned aircraft; ensure完整 operation of compute, sensors, and controls.
• Pre-flight Preparation: manage build, config, and validation for flight readiness.
• On-site Flight Test Support: travel to test sites and support live flights under time pressure.
• Hardware/Software Debugging: diagnose and fix integration issues in lab and field.
• Flight Data Capture & Analysis: collect data and coordinate with autonomy engineers to refine behavior.
• Collaborate with autonomy, GNC, systems, and test teams to ensure timely delivery.
• Continuous Improvement: build tools to speed up integration and test reliability.
• Support Certification & Compliance: assist with documentation and validation for airworthiness.
• Travel approximately 30-40% of the year to offices, customer sites, and events.
