Summary

Are you an experienced mechanic looking for a great opportunity with a stable employer? Spire is hiringSenior Fleet Techniciansin the St. Louis area to perform preventative maintenance (PM), repair broken, worn or other damaged mechanical, hydraulic or electrical parts on vehicles and equipment ranging from grounds maintenance equipment through earth moving equipment!

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 7+ years' hands-on mechanical repair experience performing similar tasks in a repair facility
  • Valid and current driver's license
  • Ability to work a split shift (days to train, then evenings)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs PM inspections and repairs on a wide variety of vehicles, including (but not limited to):

    • Change tires and perform repairs
    • Diagnose, repair and or replace broken or defective components
    • Conduct the repair of major components
  • Clean and maintain garage and immediate workspace
  • Pickup and delivery of company vehicles & equipment
  • Perform Missouri Motor Vehicle Inspections and Federal DOT inspections
  • Perform occasional tasks such as making emergency service calls in the field
  • Aid in the training of junior technicians
  • Other duties are assigned

Essential Characteristics and Competencies

  • The job requires an in-depth knowledge of the principles of both Unleaded & Diesel internal combustion engines, hydraulic systems, air systems, computer & electrical systems along with a detailed knowledge of their parts & operation gained from technical training and practical work experience

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • High School Diploma or GEDREQUIRED;associate's degree in automotive or diesel technology from a hands-on accredited institute preferred

  • Possession of a valid driver's licenseREQUIRED(must remain active/current)
  • Class "A" CDL with HAZMAT and Tanker endorsements, or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire(must remain active/current)
  • Possess State Inspectors License and DOT certification, or the ability to obtain one within a 1 year in the position(must remain certified)
  • Possess Refrigerant Recovery Certification, or the ability to obtain one within 1 year of hire(must remain certified)

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Seven (7) years' hands-on experience, with on-the-job training, working in a repair facilityREQUIRED

  • Mechanical repair knowledge of a wide variety of vehicles and equipmentREQUIRED

  • Ability to use a copy machine to scan various documents
  • Read and interpret pertinent laws, codes and safety orders dealing with the handling of fuel and transportation of fuel(s) and hazardous materials

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Train on day shift, Monday through Friday, then moves to 3:00pm to 11:00pm (paid shift differential for evenings); weekends as necessary(shift change possible in future bid opportunities)
  • This position may involve shift work; Overtime may be requested
  • Must be in physical shape to use hand & power tools, climb, bend, twist, stretch, swing necessary tooling, lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Job responsibilities require both inside and outside work to be performed, with possible exposure to adverse weather conditions
  • May come in to contact with oil, grease, and a variety of fluids and solvents
  • The job is performed in accordance with company rules and policies
