Job description

About This Job

The Senior Fixed Income Analyst is responsible for conducting in-depth credit research and analysis across corporate and municipal fixed income securities while supporting portfolio manager decision-making across fixed income SMAs. Leveraging advanced experience across corporate, municipal, and structured products markets, this role independently conducts deep fundamental, market, and economic research; develops investment theses; and provides high-conviction recommendations to portfolio managers. These recommendations include issuer-specific guidance and portfolio parameter changes, both of which directly impact day-to-day trading activities across a $2 billion portfolio. The role works directly with financial advisors to support end-client conversations, participates in portfolio positioning and the creation of new strategies, and additionally executes trades across client portfolios with precision, market awareness, and product expertise.

It is anticipated that an incumbent in this role will work as a Hybrid employee, with three (3) or more days each week required on-site at one of the listed office locations.

Candidates should be located within a commutable distance to an office. Internal candidates currently aligned to an Orion office location may be given preference; however, internal candidates with varying work arrangements may be considered based on experience and business needs. Work location is subject to change based on business needs.

Essential Functions of the Job
  • Conduct independent, in-depth research on corporate issuers, including financial analysis, sector assessments, and structural evaluation.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of state and local municipal government finances, pension obligations, tax-base trends, revenue sources, and debt structures.
  • Provide buy/hold/sell recommendations on corporate and municipal issuers.
  • Place corporate, treasury, municipal, structured product, and agency trades across client portfolios, ensuring accuracy, compliance alignment, and efficient implementation of portfolio strategy.
  • Partner with financial advisors by delivering fixed income market insights, product knowledge, and credit perspectives to support end-client conversations.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of municipal and corporate credit frameworks, sector outlooks, and approved issuer lists.
  • Monitor municipal and corporate market developments and provide regular credit updates to portfolio managers and advisors.
  • Serve as a primary research partner to portfolio managers in portfolio construction and sector allocation decisions.
  • Provide recommendations regarding portfolio positioning, duration management, sector weighting, and credit allocation.
  • Participate in investment strategy discussions and contribute to strategic portfolio decisions.
  • Serve as lead researcher on the buildout of new strategies.
  • Mentor and train Fixed Income Analysts on credit research methodologies, municipal and corporate analysis, and fixed income market fundamentals.
  • Represent the credit committee in advisor meetings, client reviews, and market update presentations.
  • Create fixed income content for internal audiences, advisors, and end clients.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that increase research efficiency and scalability.
Skills Needed to Perform the Job
  • Advanced credit analysis skills, including financial statement analysis, leverage and coverage ratios, cash flow modeling, and covenant evaluation across corporate issuers.
  • Deep expertise in municipal finance, including state and local government budgets, tax-base trends, pension and OPEB liabilities, revenue sources, and general obligation bond structures.
  • Strong relative value and structured product analysis skills across corporate, municipal, and structured fixed income sectors.
  • Proficiency in portfolio construction principles, including duration management, yield curve positioning, and sector and credit allocation specific to SMAs.
  • Sound judgment in OTC fixed income trading, including bond pricing, liquidity assessment, and best‑execution practices.
  • Strong proficiency with fixed income analytics platforms, such as Bloomberg, and financial modeling in Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex credit analysis into clear guidance for portfolio managers, advisors, and clients.
