Job summary

Lorien is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer in Austin, TX to lead production firmware for robotics actuators. This 100% hands-on role covers from prototype to production, with a focus on motor control, real-time performance, telemetry and diagnostics.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of embedded firmware experience, strong C/C++ skills, and hands-on motor control experience with BLDC motors and FOC. Onsite collaboration is required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of production-grade embedded software experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer or Mechanical Engineering; Master's in controls or motor drives valued.
• Strong C/C++ proficiency with Python, Docker & Git knowledge.
• Motor control firmware experience for BLDC or other brushless motors (FOC, current & torque control).
• Hands-on real-time embedded firmware experience in production.

Responsibilities

• Build, deploy & maintain motor control firmware for robotic actuators, including FOC and real-time control.
• Own system identification, plant modeling, controller tuning & hard real-time performance.
• Define & run HIL & SIL test strategy for performance, safety & reliability at scale.
• Drive firmware quality, reliability & field performance as production scales.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to architect next-gen actuators from prototype to production.
• Participate in code reviews, design reviews & debugging, shaping tooling & architecture.
