Job summary

TSI Incorporated, located in Shoreview, MN, seeks a Senior Firmware Engineer to develop advanced embedded products that collect and process data from sensors and equipment. You will join project teams through the full software lifecycle—from requirements and design to testing and release.

You will lead architecture and development of an in-house embedded platform, implement complex systems, document thoroughly, and mentor other engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer, software, or electrical engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in firmware development.
• Master’s degree in computer, software, or electrical engineering, or related field.
• Knowledge of Programming C# in a Windows based .NET environment, Multithreaded programming, Embedded Linux, Experience leading and mentoring other engineers, Database design and implementation, Computer communication/Networking, AGILE/Scrum best practices, Mobile software application development, The Mono Project or .net core, JIRA, Confluence, GIT, UI/UX design, Knowledge of and/or exposure to Visual Studio.

Responsibilities

• Work with project teams to develop embedded software products and algorithms.
• Collaborate with project and product managers through full software life cycle.
• Lead architecture, design, and development of an in-house embedded software platform.
• Design and implement software systems and integrate major features.
• Develop solutions addressing abstract and complex problems.
• Write complex synchronous and asynchronous communication pieces from UI to hardware.

• Review solutions with engineers and managers; participate in PR reviews.
• May serve as a technical lead on projects and mentor others.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, marketing, and sales.

Senior Firmware Engineer at TSI

The Senior Firmware Engineer is responsible for developing state of the art embedded products, which interface, collect, and process data from control devices, sensors, and equipment. The scope of work is complex in nature and will consist of designing systems that are both efficient and effective.

What Will You Do?

In order to grow and build a successful career with TSI, you will:

• Work together with project teams to develop embedded software products and algorithms
• Work closely with project and product managers through the full life cycle of software development, including requirement specification, design, implementation, test, and release
• Lead the architecture, design, and development of an in-house embedded software platform
• Design and implement software systems, and integrate major features into that system
• Develop solutions that address abstract and complex problems
• Use software tools to write complex synchronous and asynchronous communication pieces from the user interface to the hardware devices
• Evaluate potential solutions to engineering problems for feasibility and cost effectiveness
• Responsible for providing strong documentation and specifications on project work
• Design and implement system level tests to validate project work, including unit tests, UI automation tests, end-to-end functional tests, and performance
• Review solutions with other engineers and managers, when necessary, including pull request reviews
• May serve as a technical lead on projects and provide work direction to individuals or a group of engineers, with respect to the project or tasks, in order to meet project deadlines
• Responsible for bringing to the project group the higher level of engineering skills, coupled with the ability to work cross functionally with manufacturing, marketing, and sales to move a project forward
• Work cooperatively with other departments to develop best practices

What Do You Need?

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in computer, software, or electrical engineering, or related field
• 5+ years of experience in firmware development
• Knowledge of
  • Embedded Development using C or C++ or equivalent
  • Control systems and/or state machines
  • CANbus networking design and applications
  • Object oriented design methodologies
  • Software engineering fundamentals
  • Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, Power Point)

Competitive market salary from $115,000 - $140,000 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities may be available and awarded at the discretion of the Company.
