Job description

Agility Robotics is a pioneer. Our robot, Digit, is the first to be sold into workplaces across the globe. Our team is differentiated by its expertise in imagining, engineering, and delivering robots with advanced mobility, dexterity, intelligence, and efficiency -- robots specifically designed to work alongside people, in spaces built for people. Every day, we break through engineering challenges and invent new solutions and capabilities that will one day make robots commonplace and approachable. This work is our passion and our responsibility: our mission is to make businesses more productive and people’s lives more fulfilling.

About The Role

We are currently designing the next generation of Digit in order to address customer needs at commercial scale. Engineers in this role help drive the robot firmware architecture, as well as design and develop robust and reliable firmware for this robot generation, and serve as the bridge between hardware and higher level robot control algorithms. You will collaborate with a multi-discipline team of engineers to understand the unique requirements for our products and play a key role in ensuring that we have robot designs that are robust and production-ready.

Location

This position can be based either within commuting distance of our Salem, OR headquarters or remotely in the San Francisco Bay Area. For remote candidates, regular travel to Salem, typically 1-2 weeks per month, will be required.

About The Work:

  • Contribute to the C++ firmware that drives our robot’s low-level sensor network and power management systems and communicates with the higher level software stack via EtherCAT
  • Write C++ firmware for the hardware abstraction layer, peripheral driver, and application levels
  • Perform real-time hardware testing and debugging using benchtop test equipment such as logic analyzers and oscilloscopes
  • Work with cross-disciplinary teams to solve complex problems dealing with the integration of software and hardware
  • Write performant, well-tested, maintainable, and well-documented C++/C code

About You:

  • BS with 7-10 years industry experience or MS in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field with 3-5 years industry experience
  • Experience writing modern C++ (17, 20)
  • Experience using FreeRTOS or similar
  • Experience with best practices for writing performant and maintainable software
  • Proficiency with a Linux-based development environment
  • Ability to read schematics, PCB layouts, and component datasheets
  • Ability to verbally communicate technical information effectively
  • Authorization to work in the USA

Preferred to have:

  • Experience with implementation of automation fieldbuses such as EtherCAT, CAN, Profinet, etc… EtherCAT is highly desirable
  • Experience writing embedded C++ for bare-metal ARM systems
  • Experience developing real-time or low-latency systems
  • Experience designing and implementing hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing frameworks for embedded systems
  • Experience with unit testing such as with GTest and coverage analysis
  • Proficiency in Python (3.6+)
  • Familiarity with standard agile and software development processes (issue tracking tools (Jira), feature branching, version control (Git), continuous integration and deployment)

Benefits

  • 401(k) Plan:Includes a 6% company match.
  • Equity:Company stock options.
  • Insurance Coverage:100% company-paid medical, dental, vision, and short/long-term disability insurance for employees.
