Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Possession of California Class C driver's license with Firefighter Endorsement or the ability to obtain within twelve months.
• Current California EMT-B or ability to obtain within twelve months.
• Satisfactory completion of California State Firefighter I and II programs and possess the certificates.

Responsibilities

• Responds to fire, rescue, medical and other emergency incidents.
• Lays supply and suppression hose lines and operates nozzle to direct stream of water on fire.
• Raises, lowers, and climbs ladders.
• Performs overhaul and salvage operations.
• Operates rescue and EMS equipment.
• Communicates with superior during fire or emergency and uses radio, telephone and computer equipment.
• Administers first aid/CPR and operates resuscitation equipment.
• Cleans and tests fire hoses and pumping apparatus.
• Answers general questions from the public and assists in community projects.
• Keeps station quarters and equipment clean and orderly.
• Participates in fire drills and training exercises.
• Assists in fire prevention inspections.
• May respond to emergency calls during non-duty hours.
• Operates fire pumping engines and other suppression equipment.
• Creates openings for ventilation or entrance.
• Protects property with salvage covers and tools.
• Tests and maintains apparatus and equipment in safe condition.
• Performs mechanical inspection and servicing of fire trucks.
• May perform fire inspection work enforcing codes.
• Serves as Acting Fire Apparatus Engineer as assigned.
