Job summary

Blue Origin in Florida is seeking an experienced Facility Design Fire Protection Engineer to lead fire protection design for new and existing facilities. You will coordinate with architects, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers and ensure compliance with NFPA, IBC, IFC and AHJ requirements.

Responsibilities include performing FHA, egress analyses, hydraulic calculations, and developing construction documents for fire suppression, detection, and alarm systems while mentoring junior

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. state.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in fire protection engineering design.
• Experience designing fire protection systems for industrial, laboratory, manufacturing, or aerospace facilities.
• Proficiency with hydraulic modeling software (HydraCAD, SprinkCALC, AutoSPRINK).
• Strong knowledge of NFPA codes and standards (13, 14, 20, 72, 101) and IBC/IFC.
• Experience producing stamped engineering drawings and design packages.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead fire protection engineering design for new and existing facilities, including system design, layout, and specification development.
• Perform FHA, egress analyses, hydraulic calculations, smoke control and detection system design, and fire resistance rating evaluations.
• Develop and review construction documents, drawings, specs for fire suppression, detection, and alarm systems.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA, IBC, IFC and AHJ requirements.
• Coordinate with architects, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers to integrate fire protection systems.
• Interface with AHJs, insurance carriers, and third-party reviewers during design reviews and permitting.
• Conduct site assessments and inspections to identify deficiencies and develop remediation plans.
• Support development and maintenance of facility fire protection standards and policies.
