Job summary

UL Solutions' Research and Development team is seeking a Simulation Engineer with a strong CFD, fire dynamics and thermal sciences background to support fire and explosion hazard modeling. This role uses FLACS and FDS to evaluate battery fires, gas explosions, and performance-based fire safety designs.

You will develop and execute CFD-based simulations, model ESS/BESS scenarios, analyze temperature fields, overpressure, gas dispersion and visibility, and support safety design aligned with codes

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical or Chemical engineering or CFD-related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in CFD, thermal-fluid simulation, or fire modeling.
• Hands-on experience with FDS and FLACS.
• Proficiency in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and combustion fundamentals.
• Experience with CAD software such as Inventor or SolidWorks.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute CFD-based fire and explosion simulations using FLACS and FDS.
• Model ESS/BESS fire scenarios and gas dispersion.
• Analyze temperature fields, overpressure, and gas concentration.
• Support performance-based fire safety design aligned with codes and standards.
• Prepare technical reports and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Maintain documentation and modeling workflows.
