Job summary

Surlamer Investments is seeking a highly motivated full-stack engineer to lead software teams and shape the technical direction of our AI-driven trading platform in Newport Beach, CA.

You will own end-to-end engineering across frontend, backend, and data layers, work with financial data sources, and translate complex financial concepts into robust software solutions that scale with investment workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, engineering, math, finance or related field (Master’s preferred).
• 5+ years of professional full-stack software development experience.
• Hands-on experience across UI/frontend, backend systems, and relational databases.
• Advanced proficiency in Python.
• Strong TypeScript and Next.js/React frontend experience.
• Experience designing full-system architecture across backend, APIs, databases, data flows, frontend and integrations.
• Experience leading software engineering teams and setting technical direction.
• Experience with financial markets, quantitative models, trading systems, or analytics.

Responsibilities

• Design, enhance, and scale systems for financial modeling and analytics.
• Build quantitative models spanning equity analysis, valuation, options pricing, risk and trading strategy evaluation.
• Develop and maintain backend infrastructure and platform services using Python.
• Develop and improve frontend applications using TypeScript and Next.js/React.

Surlamer Investments is a private investment management firm with a portfolio spanning algorithmic hedge funds, public markets, and technology-driven private ventures. We’ve developed a spin-out company to commercialize an AI-empowered trading research and ideation platform that combines proprietary algorithms, LLMs, and quantitative analysis to support institutional investment decision-making.

We are seeking a highly motivated, analytically minded full-stack engineer with experience leading software engineering teams and setting technical direction. Strong working knowledge of finance and capital markets is required, including fundamental equity analysis, valuation, and options and derivatives. Candidates should understand the financial logic behind the models they implement, not simply translate specifications into code.

Candidates must also have hands-on experience across frontend/UI, backend systems, and databases, including Python, TypeScript, and Next.js or React, with a strong understanding of UI/UX principles. Experience integrating institutional financial data sources into applications or data pipelines is a strong plus, including Bloomberg API, Bloomberg financial data, S&P Capital IQ, or comparable platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, or a related field; Master’s degree or higher preferred
• 5+ years of professional full-stack software development experience
• Demonstrated hands-on experience across UI/frontend development, backend systems, and relational databases
• Advanced proficiency in Python
• Strong experience with TypeScript and Next.js, React, or a comparable modern frontend framework
• Experience designing full-system architecture across backend systems, APIs, relational databases, data flows, frontend applications, and system integrations
• Strong understanding of UI/UX principles and experience developing polished, user-facing applications
• Experience with relational databases, including schema design, querying, and normalization
• Hands-on software testing and validation experience
• Experience leading software engineering teams and setting technical direction
• Experience developing or working with financial markets, quantitative models, trading systems, or financial analytics tools
• Strong working knowledge of fundamental equity analysis, valuation, and options and derivatives
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
• Must live within commuting distance of Newport Beach, CA, or be willing to relocate

Compensation

• Base salary: $180,000 - commensurate with experience
• Discretionary performance-based bonus
