We add creativity to tech-enabled efficiency and robust analytics to address risks others avoid. Vantage provides specialty re/insurance through its operating subsidiaries in Bermuda and the U.S.

Vantage has approximately 365 colleagues in both the United States and Bermuda. We have offices in Chicago, IL, Norwalk, CT, West Hartford, CT, Washington, D.C., Boston, MA, New York, NY, Atlanta, GA, and Hamilton, Bermuda. Additionally, we are a highly geographically diverse workforce with colleagues based in 35 states and counting. We fully support work flexibility including remote and hybrid work arrangements.

Role location: U.S.

About the role:

The Senior Financial Data Analyst supports data analysis efforts related to insurance systems development, including data conversions, data preparation, and the maintenance of reference data that supports downstream systems such as the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), Oracle General Ledger, and Ceded Reinsurance platforms.

A key focus of this role is partnering with the Finance team throughout the financial close process. This includes validating that data from source systems is accurately reflected in the EDW, ensuring premium calculations are producing expected results, investigating variances, and resolving discrepancies before results are posted to the General Ledger. The role also supports financial reconciliations and helps finalize reporting outcomes.

In addition, the Senior Financial Data Analyst is responsible for documenting source-to-target reconciliations, tracking data variances through resolution, and supporting compliance with audit and SOX requirements.

This position manages a prioritized backlog of development requests and user stories, ensuring business requirements are clearly documented and accurately represent stakeholder needs. The analyst works closely with developers to clarify requirements, validate completed solutions, and obtain business approval before implementation.

The Senior Financial Data Analyst partners closely with the VP, Insurance Enterprise Data to prioritize initiatives across the organization and collaborates with the Project Manager to coordinate releases, communicate changes, and support successful deployment of enhancements into the production environment.

Base salary for the selected candidate will range from $150,000 to $175,000, commensurate with candidate experience and expectations. Additionally, Vantage offers its colleagues performance-based bonus potential, strong health & welfare benefits, retirement plan, competitive time off plans, a highly flexible work environment, and much more.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Supports the VP of Insurance Enterprise Data to ensure effective and timely development of new and/or enhanced systems/technologies.
  • Provides deep technical and business analysis of data such that developers can effectively create solutions that assist leaders with data-driven decision making.
  • Creates source-to-target mappings with support from functional business representatives.
  • Owns the process of user and technical story writing for all work to be delivered.
  • Maintains a groomed backlog, ensuring each story includes a clear, concise description, acceptance criteria, a developer point estimate, and an agreed-upon delivery expectation with the business.
  • Owns the process of obtaining business sign off on all stories being deployed to production as well as ensuring the code is released to production on a timely basis. This requires close consultation with developers to ensure proper evidence and documentation support the release.
  • Completes the business analysis activities and helps the development team understand the analysis.
  • Supports quality assurance efforts for assigned systems/technologies through vendors, system integrators, and internal development teams.
  • Design test cases and testing scenarios working with QA engineers.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of professional experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in data analysis, business analysis, or financial systems support, ideally within the P&C insurance or reinsurance industry.
  • Experience working with data warehouses, general ledger systems, and financial close processes is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Property and Casualty Insurance, including policy life cycle, policy structure, and core data elements typically captured.
  • Experience working with financial data, particularly data feeding the General Ledger and supporting internal and external financial reporting.
  • Exposure to the audit process in providing evidence and support for financial controls.
  • Thorough understanding of Unearned Premium logic and derivation (including DAC). Experience with validating and correcting logic used for the calculation.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to bridge finance, IT, and development teams. Must be comfortable speaking with and presenting to senior business leaders with respect to data solutions and challenges.
  • Basic SQL skills and the ability to read and understand ETL code and logic.

  • Exposure to cloud implementations using structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data methods.
  • Knowledge of application deployment & test automation products, processes, and best practices to ensure full source-to-target reconciliation.
  • Good understanding of Agile development methods and their application to company technology needs.
