Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in finance or healthcare administration; MBA a plus.
• 5 years of relevant financial analysis, decision support, or accounting experience.

Responsibilities

Step into a high-visibility financial decision-support role at one of the nation’s most historic and prestigious academic medical institutions. Situated right in the vibrant heart of Washington, DC, this iconic acute-care teaching hospital has served the local community for over a century while advancing healthcare education and research.

We are seeking a driven, quick-thinking Senior Financial Analyst to serve as a key strategic partner to leadership. Working directly on-site at our flagship hospital facility along the Georgia Avenue corridor, you will translate complex clinical, operational, and financial data into actionable insights that drive budget strategy, operational efficiency, and service-line growth.

Position Type:

13-Week Contract (High potential for direct-hire conversion)

Conversion Salary:

Up to $130,000 / year (FTE maximum based on experience)

Key Responsibilities

• Advanced Data Transformation: Utilize Power Query as your primary tool to extract, clean, transform, combine, and analyze complex financial, operational, and clinical data sets.
• Dashboarding & Visualization: Leverage Power BI to build, maintain, and support dynamic financial dashboards, KPI tracking, and interactive leadership reporting.
• Financial Modeling & Analytics: Perform ad-hoc financial modeling, proformas, capital ROI evaluations, margin analyses, and long-term strategic financial planning.
• Budgeting & Variance Analysis: Support the end-to-end annual budgeting process (volume, revenue, expense) and lead monthly budget-to-actual variance reviews and reconciliations.
• Labor & Productivity Analysis: Conduct ongoing labor, productivity, and staffing variance analyses to identify trends and cost-saving opportunities across hospital units.
• Interdepartmental Liaison: Serve as a financial advisor to clinical managers, operational leaders, and academic healthcare executives to investigate financial drivers and support decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

• Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred (MBA/Master's degree is a plus).
• Equivalency Option: 10 to 15+ years of relevant professional experience will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
• Professional Experience:
• ~5 years of relevant financial analysis, decision support, or accounting experience.
• Direct experience within an acute-care hospital environment is strongly preferred (candidates with managed care or general healthcare backgrounds will be considered with expert Power Query/Power BI skills).
• Proven experience with hospital/healthcare operational analytics, budget-to-actual variance analysis, and labor productivity tracking.
• Technical Skills (Top Priority):
• Power Query: In-depth, hands-on expertise is the #1 technical requirement.
• Power BI: Strong hands-on experience in building reports and visual dashboards.
• Advanced MS Excel: Advanced proficiency with PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, complex logical formulas, and financial modeling.
• ERP/Software: Experience with Lawson, DataRails, or major healthcare ERP conversions is a strong plus.
• Core Competencies: Strong working knowledge of GAAP, exceptional analytical curiosity, ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and strong executive communication skills.
