Job summary

Upstart is a digital-first fintech company seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to lead FP&A initiatives for its Unsecured Lending segment. You’ll forecast, plan, and report on financial performance, building robust models and delivering insights to drive strategic decisions.

You will collaborate across teams to improve reporting, analyze trends, and support executives with timely, accurate analysis. This role offers remote work within the US/Canada with quarterly in-person onsite planning

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Statistics or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant FP&A experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, including experience building complex financial models.
  • Experience analyzing large data sets and translating financial and business drivers into recommendations for decision-making.
  • Experience developing financial forecasts, budgets, variance analyses, and financial or operational performance reporting.
  • Proven ability to learn quickly, work independently, manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, and operate in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support short- and long-term financial planning, forecasting, and budget management for the Unsecured Lending organization.
  • Develop executive-ready insights and commentary for recurring forecast and business reviews, month-end close, and annual planning.
  • Analyze financial and operational performance, identify emerging trends and risks, and conduct root-cause analysis when results differ from expectations.
  • Provide visibility into key drivers and tradeoffs for operating expenses in partnership with department leads.
  • Improve financial reporting, systems/tooling, and analytical infrastructure to support accurate and scalable decision-making.
  • Partner across FP&A, Accounting, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure accurate forecasting, reporting, and transparency.

The Team:

Upstart’s FP&A team plays a critical role in shaping business decisions, ensuring financial discipline as products scale, and driving the Company’s business and financial planning process. This role will explain and forecast performance, identify opportunities and risks, and inform financial decisions for the Unsecured Lending organization. Unsecured Lending is a complex and strategically important part of Upstart’s business with multiple products, financial drivers, and performance dynamics to manage across varying stages of maturity. The organization includes Upstart’s biggest product as well as the newest and fastest growing product that introduces a subscription monetization model.

As a Senior Financial Analyst at Upstart, you will drive all aspects of FP&A which includes forecasting and business planning, performance analysis, and executive reporting. You will build reliable financial models, translate business and financial results into actionable insights, and partner across the organization to support informed decision-making. Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in in Finance, Economics,Accounting, Statistics or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of relevant FP&A experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, including experience building complex financial models
  • Experience analyzing large data sets and translating financial and business drivers into recommendations for decision-making
  • Experience developing financial forecasts, budgets, variance analyses, and financial or operational performance reporting
  • Proven ability to learn quickly, work independently, manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, and operate in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of financial planning and accounting systems such as Adaptive Planning, Netsuite, or similar platforms
  • Experience with BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Mode
  • Familiarity with SQL or a willingness to learn
  • Experience in fintech, lending, consumer finance, subscriptions, or technology-enabled marketplaces
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across functions and levels

This role is available in the following locations: Remote

Travel requirements

As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S or Canada (outside of Quebec) but are expected to spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites and in-person meetings. The onsite cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.

United States | Remote - Anticipated Base Salary Range

$105,500 — $145,900 USD

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
