Job summary

Devoted Health is seeking a senior cost accountant to architect and scale the cost framework, linking membership growth, staffing, and vendor spend to the P&L with driver-based analyses. You will own allocation methodologies, cost centers, and product-level costing while supporting the monthly close.

You will build scalable, self-service reporting, partner with market, network, and clinical teams, and lead audits and regulatory inquiries.

Qualifications

• Hands-on cost accounting experience including allocation methodology and cost center design.
• Advanced financial modeling with large data sets, AI, and BI platforms.
• Ability to explain financial results clearly to non-finance audiences.
• Thrives in a fast-paced startup where priorities shift and processes are built.
• Core FP&A experience: budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and management reporting.
• Healthcare services/health insurance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Define direct cost accounting policies, controls, and reporting to drive financial and growth objectives.
• Architect and scale the cost accounting framework across all business segments and legal entities.
• Deliver market and product-level profitability analysis to guide leadership on margin optimization.
• Support intercompany cost allocations, transfer pricing inputs, and related reporting.
• Build driver-based financial models linking membership growth, staffing decisions, and vendor spend to P&L and cash.
• Support monthly close related to cost including accruals, allocations, and variance analysis with driver-focused reporting.
• Develop business cases and ROI analyses, vendor decisions, and headcount investments with modeled outcomes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to standardize policy, process, and control with self-service tooling.
• Educate market, network, and clinical teams with tools and reporting to manage cost performance.
• Handle audit, examination, and regulatory inquiries and requests as needed.

Job description

• Direct cost accounting policies, controls, and reporting to drive financial and growth objectives
• Architect and scale the cost accounting framework, including expense allocation methodologies across all business segments and legal entities
• Deliver market and product-level profitability analysis to guide leadership on margin optimization
• Supporting the financial mechanics of intercompany arrangements, including cost allocation, transfer pricing inputs, and reporting requested by internal and third-party counterparties
• Building and maintaining driver-based financial models that connect membership growth, staffing decisions, and vendor spend to the P&L and cash
• Supporting or owning aspects of the monthly close related to cost, including accruals, allocations, variance analysis against budget and forecast, and management reporting packages that lead with drivers rather than restated numbers
• Building business cases and ROI analyses, vendor and build-versus-buy decisions, market expansion and headcount investment, and then holding those investments accountable to what was modeled
• Being an integral part of a cross-functional team focused on continuous improvement and standardization of policy, process and control, with a heavy emphasis on technology development and shifting our reporting out of spreadsheets and into scalable, self-service tooling
• Supporting our market, network, and clinical teams with the education, tools, analysis, and supplemental reporting they need to manage their own cost performance
• Ownership and responsibility for satisfying applicable audit, examination and other regulatory or compliance related inquiries and requests

Deep understanding of ERP or planning systems, or in standing up a cost allocation model from scratchDemonstrated hands-on cost accounting experience including allocation methodology, cost center design, unit cost or product-level costing, and the discipline to defend how a number was builtAdvanced financial modeling skills, including comfort working with large and imperfect data sets, AI, and/or a BI platformThe ability to explain financial results clearly to people who do not work in finance, and to challenge assumptions respectfully when the numbers do not support the storyThe ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment where priorities shift and process is something you help buildCore FP&A or accounting experience: cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, variance analysis, and management reportingA minimum of 5-10 years of finance and/or accounting experienceHealthcare services and/or health insurance experience (preferred)An undergraduate and/or graduate degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field
