Job summary

WSP USA in Portland, ME is seeking a Senior Field Technician to support a diverse portfolio of environmental investigation and remediation projects. You will assist with field sampling, oversight of subcontractors, and ensure safety and quality on site.

The ideal candidate has 9+ years of related experience, a high school diploma, a valid driver's license, and the ability to travel. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • 9+ years of related experience on complex environmental projects preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Able to arrive on site before scheduled times.
  • Familiar with sampling protocols and chain of custody forms.
  • Independent worker with strong documentation skills.
  • Comfortable traveling and overtime as needed.
  • Able to lift up to 35 lbs and work in outside conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with writing Sampling and Analysis Plans.
  • Prepare Site Specific Health and Safety Plans.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary field teams in safe execution of sampling plans.
  • Oversee subcontractors for soil borings, monitoring wells, and geophysical work.
  • Conduct environmental sampling (groundwater, sediment, surface water, soil vapor).
  • Perform geologic logging and data checks for testing data accuracy.
  • Write daily observation reports and monitor procedures for compliance.
  • Interact with client representatives at project sites.
  • Mentor others and uphold safety policies.
  • Adhere to code of conduct and project budgets; perform additional duties.

This Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking a Senior Field Technician to join the team in our Portland, ME office, supporting a diverse portfolio of environmental investigation and remediation projects. The successful candidate will support various environmental sampling and subcontractor oversight activities at public and private sector environmental projects primarily in the northeast.


Your Impact


  • Assists with writing Sampling and Analysis Plans


  • Prepares Site Specific Health and Safety Plans


  • Leads multi-disciplinary field teams in safely executing requirements of sampling and analysis plans


  • Performs oversight of subcontractors advancing soil borings, installing monitoring wells, conducting geophysical investigations, as well as other field activities


  • Performs environmental sampling including low flow groundwater, sediment, surface water and soil vapor


  • Performs geologic logging


  • Performs analysis or calculations to check accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of testing data.


  • Writes daily reports of observation


  • Monitors work procedures for compliance with project specifications


  • Interacts with client representative (supervisors, foremen, project managers, engineers, etc.) at project sites


  • Provides mentorship to others


  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.


  • Perform additional duties as required by project or business needs.



Who You Are

Required Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required


  • 9+ years of related experience on variety of complex projects preferred


  • Valid Driver’s License required


  • Reliability – must be able to arrive at designated project sites prior to scheduled times


  • Familiarity with sampling protocols including completion of chain of custody forms


  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and properly document field data


  • Ability to prepare reports and documentation


  • Ability to travel and work overtime as needed


  • Ability to work in variable outside conditions


  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs


  • Must pass physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record


  • Demonstrates advanced communication and problem-solving skills


  • Proactively identifies task and technical issues and takes actions to mitigate risk


  • Ability to develop internal client relationships


  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize evolving project requirements for multiple ongoing projects


  • Ability to lead technical/field teams on large projects


  • Can work in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams


  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.


  • Ability to work schedule is conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.


  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements



Preferred Qualifications


  • OSHA 40 Hazwoper Training


  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Construction Training

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $76,100 - $90,700


WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
