Job summary

Dashiell is seeking a Senior Technician to perform electrical testing, maintenance, and start‑ups of high voltage substations at Port Arthur, TX. The role includes leading crews, interfacing with clients, and ensuring strict safety practices on each job.

Qualified candidates will have extensive HV substation experience, a related degree or diploma, and the ability to travel up to 50%. Proactive reporting and strong communication are essential to success in this position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology preferred.
• Minimum ten plus years of electrical testing, maintenance, and start-up of high voltage substations.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record and TWIC card.
• Ability to travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical testing services on power apparatus, substations, and switchgear (protective relays, circuit breakers, transformers, meters, and more).
• Perform troubleshooting and problem identification and analysis; provide corrective action recommendations.
• Generate technical reports detailing services provided, problems found, and actions taken or recommended.
• Represent the company professionally when interfacing with clients.
• Coordinate scheduling of manpower and equipment with management; maintain safety as a top priority; conduct safety meetings and JSTAs.

Job Title: Senior Technician

Job Location: 930 South Business Park Dr., Port Arthur, TX 77640

Primary Function: The Senior Technician will perform electrical testing, maintenance, and start-ups of high voltage substations. Senior Technicians have responsibility as crew leads, serving as a point of contact with clients and ensuring safe work practices on each job.

Duties & Responsibilities

Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

• Perform electrical testing services on power apparatus, substations, and switchgear included (but not limited to) the following:

• Protective relays and relaying systems
• Circuit breakers
• Power transformers
• Current and potential transformers
• Meters, transducers, and power system metering
• Power Cables
• Grounding Systems
• Motors and Motor Starters
• Station Batteries and Chargers
• Alarm Systems and Annunciators
• Personal Protective Equipment

• Perform troubleshooting and problem identification and analysis. Make recommendations regarding corrective action and/or repairs
• Generate technical reports detailing services provided, problems found, and corrective action taken or recommended
• Represent the company in a professional manner with regard to communicating and interfacing with clients
• Communicate effectively with the company management team on a regular basis regarding project status and the scheduling of manpower and equipment
• Make safety a top priority at all times, realizing that the company has Zero Tolerance for those who do otherwise
• Conduct safety meetings and complete JSTA’s
• Other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent is preferred. Minimum Ten plus years of electrical testing, maintenance, and start-up of high voltage substations is required.

Possess skills in the following areas:

• Previous experience performing low, medium, and high voltage switching operations for various equipment in various substation configurations
• Ability to understand, comprehend, and explain one-line, three-line, AC/DC schemes, connection diagrams, specific circuits, and transformer configurations
• Experience using applicable programming/testing software as it relates to protective relaying
• Previous metering experience testing ammeters, voltmeters, frequency meters, & power factor meters
• Understand the purpose of and perform basic current & potential transformer tests, capacitor bank tests, and ground grid tests
• Understand different types of transducers and the purpose of each
• Proven knowledge of Vacuum versus Air Circuit Breakers
• Understand the difference between Oil & Gas circuit breakers
• Basic knowledge of Line Terminal Equipment within a substation
• Ability to define typical AC & DC fundamentals
• Working knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, ICEA, and NETA standards
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Power Triangle
• Basic knowledge of electrical components, devices, and symbols
• Proven communication skills, both oral and written, to convey thoughts, and facts to a diverse group of individuals including administrators, engineers, and senior management.
• Ability to work effectively and lead others in a team based environment
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Ability to work safely in hazardous situations within high voltage substations, petrochemical plants, refineries and other safety critical locations
• Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record
• Must have, or be able to obtain, a TWIC card
• Must pass pre-employment Drug, Alcohol and Background Checks; must continue to pass all random and client required Drug, Alcohol and Background Checks
• Ability to travel up to 50% required
• Flexibility for frequent overtime

Physical Requirements:

• Work situations will require an adjusted work schedule, possibly long days, evening/weekend hours in order to meet customer requirements
• Must be able to work on feet throughout the work shift
• At times will be required to work in austere working conditions
• Be able to properly lift up to 50 lbs.
• Travel to job sites is required.
