Job description

Senior Field Inspector

Location: Washington, DC area

Project start: September 2026

We are seeking a qualified candidate with a minimum of 8 years’ experience working on major construction projects, in construction or construction management inspection roles, to join our team as a Senior Field Inspector. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical problem‑solving skills, a collaborative spirit, and interpersonal skills that make a positive impact on our firm and clients.

Compensation: $90,000 – $130,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

Senior Field Inspector Essential Functions
  • Construction inspection/field engineer responsible for chairing/attending progress meetings, developing meeting minutes and submittals reviews, and preparing weekly and daily inspection reports.
  • Coordination of team efforts as a leader of our construction management inspection team. Tasks include:
    • Perform construction inspection assignments or site visits of geotechnical investigations, microtunneling, and tunnel construction/rehabilitation work and attend progress meetings.
    • Prepare daily inspection reports with detailed information and photographs, upload to Project Online.
    • Oversee the completion of geotechnical investigations in soil and rock geology.
    • Perform rock mapping of tunnel and slope conditions and geology as needed.
    • Assist and coordinate all required materials testing under the Consultant's scope, including review of all materials testing to ensure conformance to the Contract Documents.
    • Coordinate with all utilities, approval agencies, etc.
    • Maintain and update tracking sheets/logs, RFIs, RFQs, CCOs, submittals, working days, and other issues, ensuring timely document completion.
    • Maintain an up‑to‑date deficiency log and ensure all deficiencies are addressed promptly.
    • Provide feedback on construction schedule submissions and narrative reports, including two‑week look‑ahead schedules provided by the Contractor.
    • Ensure that the Contractor adheres to all requirements of the Contract and enforce such requirements.
    • Track red‑line drawings with the Contractor and capture adequate information.
    • Attend and chair meetings as necessary, including progress meetings, risk workshops, scheduling workshops, and other required meetings with utility companies, approval agencies, the client, etc.
    • Coordinate and follow‑up with all engineering disciplines to review shop drawings, RFIs, and other relevant construction documentation.
    • Monitor health and safety protocols in accordance with the contractor’s health and safety plan, raise concerns if protocols are not adhered to, and submit incident reports.
  • Ability to communicate technical and non‑technical information concisely and professionally, including facilitation of technical meetings and workshops with owners, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Technical writing proficiency for letters and daily reports.
  • Field‑based assignments will include shift work, weekday, night, and weekend work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required; master’s degree a plus.
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working on tunnel and trenchless projects in Canada and the US.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, decision‑making, and teamwork skills.
  • Effective communication with colleagues, contractors, and clients.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, collaborate across disciplines.
