Job summary

Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc. is seeking a Senior Field Engineer to join our Manhattan Tunnel Project in New York, NY.

You will review project plans, develop schedules, coordinate with subcontractors, and help manage pre-construction deliverables to keep the project on track. The role requires a Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree, 5+ years of civil experience, and strong knowledge of CPM, safety standards, and Primavera P6.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited institution.
• 5+ years of civil construction experience.
• Experience on large heavy civil infrastructure projects in dense urban settings with public-sector clients a plus.
• Knowledge of construction safety and federal & OSHA requirements.
• Project controls techniques (cost accounting, basic estimating, forecasting, and contracts).
• Strong working knowledge of CPM and resource scheduling.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Primavera P6.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good attention to detail and ability to recognize discrepancies.
• Strong work ethic and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Review project plans and develop a construction schedule in coordination with project-wide activities.
• Coordinate with subcontractors on advanced material acquisitions and pre-construction deliverables.
• Develop and assist with obtaining quotes and draft contracts to meet project requirements.
• Prepare construction work plan packages and coordinate pre-construction meetings while ensuring that all prerequisites to start construction activities are identified and completed.
• Prepare, update, and distribute work activity schedules/updates, and communicate across discipline groups and agencies to ensure proper advance notifications and coordination of start times.
• Monitor and participate daily in field construction process.
• Provide layout checks and technical reviews of work against requirements.
• Obtain confirmations from design engineer as needed
• Assist with subcontract administration and permanent material suppliers through monitoring of correspondence, submittals, RFI's, and performance records; Maintains accurate payment records.
• Assist in preparing monthly reporting for progress payments, schedule updates, and problem/issue tracking and resolution.
• Provide accurate and factual assessments of project performance.
• Participate in change orders and claims management
• Identify and resolve changing site conditions or other impacts during planning of the work
• Develop quality checks and coordinate permits from appropriate entities
• Manage and submit project close-out in coordination with the client and third parties

Frontier-Kemper-Tutor Perini joint venture was awarded the Manhattan Tunnel Project, part of the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP). A $1.18 billion design-build contract from the Gateway Development Commission for the HTP which aims to enhance rail resiliency by adding two new tracks between New York and New Jersey and rehabilitating the storm-damaged North River Tunnel. The project includes designing and constructing twin 30-foot diameter, 700-foot-long tunnels under the Hudson River, connecting to existing tunnels beneath Hudson Yards, and an access shaft at 12th Avenue, later serving as a ventilation facility.
