Job description

We are seeking a talented Senior Field Application Engineer with a strong hardware engineering background to join our team in the Michigan area. In this role, you will serve as a critical technical bridge between Nuvoton and its customers — providing expert support across our full product portfolio, including microcontrollers (MCUs), audio, digital interface, battery management and AI applications, while helping customers achieve successful design integration and deployment

Responsibilities
  • Customer Technical Support: Serve as the primary technical contact for strategic customers during pre-sales and post-sales engagements, including product evaluation, schematic design review, PCB layout guidance, hardware bring-up, and production ramp support.
  • Hardware Debug & Validation: Lead board-level debugging, root cause analysis, and system integration activities for customer platforms, utilizing oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and power analyzers.
  • Solution Recommendation: Analyze customer system requirements and recommend suitable Nuvoton MCU, MPU, power management, analog IC, and peripheral solutions based on application needs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with sales teams, distribution partners, and internal engineering groups to troubleshoot complex hardware issues, conduct product demonstrations, deliver technical training, and lead design reviews to secure design wins.
  • Technical Enablement: Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations, design reviews, and customer workshops to support design wins and successful deployment at OEM and ODM accounts.
  • Collateral Development: Develop and maintain technical collateral including application notes, reference designs, hardware bring-up guides, troubleshooting documentation, and schematic review checklists.
  • Field Intelligence: Capture field feedback on product performance, hardware feature gaps, competitive positioning, and market trends — communicating actionable insights to product and engineering teams.
  • Lab Support: Support lab validation, hardware performance benchmarking, and failure analysis for customer platform issues and internal evaluation boards.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering; Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum 7 years of hands-on embedded hardware development or field applications engineering experience supporting customer designs.
  • Hardware Design: Minimum 5 years of hardware design experience including schematic capture, PCB layout (Altium, Cadence, or equivalent), and bench-level debugging.
  • MCU Ecosystem Familiarity: Prior experience with one or more major MCU ecosystems: STMicroelectronics, Microchip, NXP, Texas Instruments, or Renesas.
  • Analog & Power Proficiency: Strong foundation in analog and digital ICs: op-amps, ADC/DAC, RTCs, bus switches, and DC-DC power conversion circuits.
  • Peripheral Interfaces: Solid command of hardware interfaces and subsystems: GPIO, UART, SPI, I2C, I3C, CAN, USB, Ethernet, and board-level power management.
  • Debug Tools: Experience debugging with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and power analyzers.
  • Customer Communication: Proven ability to manage technical customer relationships, communicate clearly, and lead cross-functional problem solving under schedule pressure.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel as needed to customer sites, distribution partner locations, trade events, and internal engineering teams across North America.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Nuvoton Platform Knowledge: Familiarity with Nuvoton product families across performance tiers — from entry-level MCUs (Cortex-M0/M23) to mid-range (Cortex-M4) and high-performance application-processor platforms (MA35D series, Cortex-A35).
  • Design-Win Experience: Experience supporting design wins with OEMs, ODMs, distributors, or ecosystem partners across industrial, automotive, IoT, or consumer electronics markets.
  • Validation & BOM: Familiarity with reference design development, hardware validation planning, BOM optimization, and production issue triage.
  • Security & Power Optimization: Knowledge of secure boot, hardware security modules, or low-power optimization techniques in MCU-based embedded platforms.
