Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Field Application Engineer to coach and mentor both new and existing teams, driving growth and process improvements in traffic signal systems. You will install, configure, and service field equipment, including controllers and video detection, while troubleshooting cabinets and related hardware.

You will also train public agency engineers and technicians, maintain records, and assist in diagnosing operational malfunctions.

Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree in engineering-related discipline or equivalent education/experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of traffic signal field experience.
  • IMSA Level III Certification required.
  • Experience with Traffic Management Systems required.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with electronic tools, diagnostic equipment, and test instruments.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to train and support customers.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency with standard office software, including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally and work non-standard hours to meet customer requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving high-quality results efficiently and safely.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to new and existing Field Application Engineers.
  • Support the growth and development of field teams and contribute to process improvements.
  • Perform traffic signal turn-on activities: installation, setup, commissioning, and servicing of field equipment.
  • Configure and support controllers and video detection systems.
  • Troubleshoot traffic control cabinets and associated field equipment.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve equipment malfunctions using manuals and schematics.
  • Rework, repair, test, troubleshoot, and maintain traffic signal and traffic management equipment.
  • Train public agency engineers and signal technicians on equipment operation and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and field activities as required by contract.
  • Assist in diagnosing malfunctions in operational equipment and support corrective actions.
  • Perform other related duties to support operational and customer needs.

Job description

Requirements
  • Four‑year college degree in an engineering‑related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of traffic signal field experience
  • IMSA Level III Certification required
  • Experience with Traffic Management Systems required
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Proficiency with electronic tools, diagnostic equipment, and test instruments
