Job summary

GCS Recruitment seeks an experienced Fiber Engineer to support OTDR analysis, fiber characterization, and remediation across ISP/OSP networks. This remote role requires travel for field work and 12+ month contract involvement. Strong focus on OTDR testing and fault remediation.

The candidate will document findings, generate reports, and coordinate with vendors and project teams to ensure network reliability. Proficiency in Word/Excel and excellent communication are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Fiber Optics or Telecommunications.
• Experience with ISP and OSP fiber networks.
• Strong expertise with OTDR testing and troubleshooting.
• Experience performing CD/PMD, bidirectional, and power meter/laser testing.
• Knowledge of fusion splicing, fiber repair, and remediation.
• Experience with fiber end-face inspection and cleaning.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to travel as required for field work.

Responsibilities

• Perform OTDR testing to validate fiber paths and identify faults, splices, bends, and signal loss.
• Conduct fiber characterization, bidirectional testing, and power/loss analysis.
• Troubleshoot fiber network issues and recommend remediation solutions.
• Perform fusion splicing and fiber repairs as needed.
• Prepare test reports, redlined fiber documentation, and demarcation maps.
• Coordinate with vendors, project managers, and internal teams to support project execution.
• Travel to customer sites for testing, troubleshooting, and remediation activities.

Overview
