Job summary

Vision Net is seeking a highly experienced Network Engineer to join the Network Operations team in Billings, MT. You will lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of photonics, routing, and switching networks, including OSP facilities.

The role requires 10+ years in telecom network engineering, strong knowledge of BGP/OSPF/MPLS, and relevant certifications. Travel, on-call duties, and a proactive, autonomous work style are expected.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of proven experience in telecom or service provider network engineering.
• Design and evolution of IP/MPLS and photonics/optical transport networks (DWDM/OTN).
• Proficiency in carrier-grade routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Segment Routing).
• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Relevant industry certifications required (CCNP/CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE, MEF, or OEM vendor certifications).
• Travel willingness for site visits and industry events.

Responsibilities

• Provide visionary leadership on network architecture and cloud integration through road maps and reference architectures.
• Design, implement, and manage complex network solutions focusing on fiber optic networks, optical transport, and core routing/switching devices.
• Monitor network performance metrics and implement strategies to ensure uptime and reliability.
• Contribute to strategic planning of network technologies and processes to enhance long-term efficiency and security.
• Champion cloud native transformation and drive automation through AI-assisted tools.
• Stay current on industry trends and best practices to modernize network infrastructure and security.
• Collaborate with other departments and external stakeholders to design and deploy tailored network solutions.
• Provide Tier-3 troubleshooting escalation to the NOC.
