Job summary

Onterris is seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Leader to head programs focused on hazardous waste management, EPCRA reporting, and regulatory compliance. You will guide projects, mentor staff, and ensure client satisfaction across multiple engagements.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's in Environmental Engineering with 10+ years in environmental consulting, including 3+ years in people management.

Qualifications

A Day in the Life

This role is responsible for leading environmental compliance programs and projects, with a strong focus on hazardous waste and hazardous materials management, EPCRA reporting, regulatory compliance, and client support. The compensation range for this role is $120k to $140k commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and submit EPCRA reporting requirements, including Tier II, TRI, and hazardous chemical inventory reporting.
• Provide technical leadership for hazardous waste (RCRA) and hazardous materials management, including waste characterization, accumulation, storage, labeling, and disposal requirements.
• Conduct and approve waste stream determinations to ensure proper classification, management, transportation, and disposal of regulated wastes.
• Track regulatory changes and assess potential impacts to client operations and compliance programs.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of environmental compliance professionals, providing technical guidance, performance management, workload planning, and career development.
• Manage multiple environmental compliance projects simultaneously, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, quality, and regulatory requirements are met.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for at least one strategic client, maintaining strong relationships, identifying opportunities for value-added services, and ensuring high levels of client satisfaction.
• Interpret environmental regulations and communicate compliance requirements to facility personnel, clients, and leadership teams.
• Prepare technical reports, compliance documentation, permit applications, and executive-level briefings.
• Prepare and lead meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties.
• Planning and oversight of multiple projects simultaneously which may include serving as technical lead on a project, supervising other professionals, and relaying proper procedures to other team-members.
• Performing project financial management duties to include project projections, project invoicing, subcontractor invoice approvals, progress reporting, and project/subcontractor contract compliance.
• Support business development efforts through active participation in proposal planning, capture strategy, and client engagement activities.
• Serve as a technical lead and/or subject matter expert for environmental compliance proposals, developing compliant and compelling technical approaches.
• Develop level-of-effort estimates, labor projections, schedules, and technical assumptions to support pricing and proposal development.

Your Expertise and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field from an accredited four-year institution.
• 10+ years of environmental consulting experience, including 3+ years of people management and team leadership.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including EPCRA, RCRA, hazardous materials/waste, wastewater, pollution prevention, and solid waste management.
• Experience with environmental compliance assessments, waste stream determinations, compliance management plans, and multimedia environmental programs.
• Proven project management skills, including managing multiple projects, budgets, priorities, and deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, delegate, mentor, and develop environmental professionals.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to synthesize complex information, develop solutions, and work independently with minimal oversight.
• Proven experience managing client relationships and serving as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders.
• Experience leading or supporting proposals for environmental compliance, planning, remediation, or related consulting services.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related business software.

Preferred qualifications

• Background working on Department of Defense and federal projects is preferred
• Experience responding to federal government solicitations, including USACE, NAVFAC, Air Force, Army, DoD, EPA, and civilian agency opportunities preferred.
• Professional license (PE) or certification is preferred
• Master’s Degree preferred
