A Day in the Life

The Entry-Level Environmental Quality Assurance Professional role requires an understanding of environmental analytical data generation processes across a wide variety of matrices, constituents, and regulatory settings. This role requires a unique blend of critical attention to detail and high-level systematic thinking – successful candidates will be able to understand and apply granular detail while not losing sight of the big picture. Strong technical comprehension and solid problem-solving skills are a must. Candidates should be familiar with the full cycle of environmental data collection, including planning guidelines and regulatory frameworks; sample collection techniques; analytical methodology and quantitation; data review and quality control interpretation; and environmental data management and reporting processes. Excellent writing and communication skills are necessary to be successful in this position. Field work and some travel required. This position is based in our Knoxville, TN office. The compensation range for this role is $55,000 to $65,000 commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.

To thrive in this role, you’ll be comfortable taking ownership of the following responsibilities:

  • Conducting field inspections, oversights, sampling, and related activities per regulatory standards as directed.
  • Assisting in developing project control documents, writing technical reports, performing data interpretation, reviewing permits, and developing of graphical presentations in a logical and professional manner.
  • Reviewing Chain-of-Custody records, field collected data, and laboratory receipt information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Effectively tracking all deliverables associated with environmental samples.
  • Developing and strengthening technical capabilities.
  • Becoming proficient in field sampling, inspections, data collection, QA/QC of data results, data reporting, synthesis and analysis.
  • Becomes knowledgeable of regulatory standards in area of technical background or technical responsibility.
  • Communicating effectively and professionally, both internally and with external clients and client contractors.
  • Tracking project hours and utilizing time effectively to complete assigned tasks within assigned timeframe(s).
  • Communicating with Project Manager when potential issues are foreseen or potential issues arise that may inhibit performing tasks within the allotted schedule and budget.
  • Always maintaining confidentiality.
  • Exercising safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.
  • Participating in the company’s continuous improvement programs and providing support to team efforts.
  • Keeping up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training and reviewing professional publications.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Your Expertise and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or related science field from an accredited college or university.
  • 1-2 years of field sampling experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the requirements for Sampling Analysis Plans, Quality Assurance Project Plans, or similar project control documents is a plus.
  • Familiarity with environmental investigations and remediation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with third-party oversight of field and/or laboratory data generation processes, QA plans, or data systems is a plus.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to focus on individual tasks while collaborating with your peers.

This position can be physically demanding and may require work in various working environments and conditions which requires that an individual be physically capable of canvassing large project areas by foot on various terrain and potentially in inclement weather. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds. Some travel is required (20-30%).
