Job summary

U.S. Department of Defense in multiple locations seeks a skilled accountant to manage monthly budget reporting, prepare quarterly and annual financial statements, and support audit readiness.

You will lead journal entries, close processes, and strengthen internal controls while mentoring junior staff across Falls Church, San Antonio, Columbus, Indianapolis, and Rome. The role requires a background investigation, a security clearance, and a Level 3 Financial Management certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
• Experience leading monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting.
• Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and FASAB.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to mentor junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Compile and analyze monthly budgetary reporting.
• Compile and analyze quarterly and annual financial statements and disclosures.
• Lead period-close checklists and execute complex journal entries.
• Analyze system inputs and interfaces to assess financial management systems.
• Design, document and test internal controls over financial reporting.
• Coordinate audit requests and prepare corrective action plans.
• Provide day-to-day mentorship to junior staff.
• Foster continuous improvement through cross-training and policy updates.
