Job summary

Able Engineering Services is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer to lead the engineering team and oversee routine maintenance of facilities in Newport Beach, CA. The role emphasizes safety, compliance, and efficient operations under the Chief Engineer's supervision.

Responsibilities include managing staff, planning preventive maintenance, handling work orders, maintaining drawings, and coordinating with vendors. The position offers full-time hours and union-negotiated benefits.

Qualifications

• 3–4 years progressive operations experience.
• Strong employee relations, coaching and training skills.
• Highest-level relevant state/local license for stationary engineer and/or HVAC, plus universal refrigerant recovery license.
• BOMA accredited courses desirable.
• Preferred: High-rise Fire Safety Director, Haz-Mat Certification, IAQ, LEED.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Building automation systems experience required.
• OSHA ACM awareness training.

Responsibilities

• Provides management for engineering staff at the direction of the Chief Engineer.
• Performs and administers preventive maintenance and operations work orders; provides QA inspections; reports findings to the Chief Engineer.
• Provides hands-on and classroom training for engineering staff; promotes learning and development.
• Manages stock levels on engineering equipment and parts.
• Schedules engineers; inspects work; allocates resources for emergencies.
• Prepares labor and material purchase requisitions; distributes for approval.
• Maintains as-built drawings; reads and interprets plans.
• Ensures safe practices and compliance with standards; maintains professional work environment.
