Job summary

Hebrew SeniorLife is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead building maintenance, equipment, and on-site repairs across multiple facilities. You will mentor and manage maintenance staff, handle budgeting for supplies, and ensure safety and cleanliness standards are met.

The role requires extensive experience in facilities management, HVAC, and building automation, with strong communication and organizational skills. On-site work in Dedham, MA is required.

Qualifications

• Combined 5-10 years commercial building engineering or Facilities Management experience.
• Three years of supervisor experience as senior or equivalent lead role.
• Five years of facilities operational experience over multiple buildings.
• Experience in construction and maintenance cost estimating practices.
• Extensive experience reading complex architectural, mechanical, electrical, communications and landscaping plans.
• In-depth knowledge of general maintenance practices for structural, mechanical, electrical and landscaping components.
• Working knowledge of HVAC systems.
• Requires excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
• Must be able to maintain a positive attitude and work under pressure.
• Must have a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to direct reports, including performance management and annual reviews.
• Mentor all staff to maximize abilities.
• Hire, counsel, and discipline department staff per policy.
• Participate in recruitment to ensure adequate staffing.
• Supervise all project phases from start to finish.
• Delegate tasks to engineering team.
• Train staff and supervise training.
• Supervise equipment installation and commissioning.
• Perform quality control checks on all systems and products.
• Purchase supplies and equipment within budget.
