Job description

Who We Are

QuEra Computing is a leader in neutral-atom quantum computing. We are building advanced quantum computers designed to solve problems beyond the practical reach of today's classical systems.

Our multidisciplinary team includes physicists, engineers, software developers, and operations professionals working together to move quantum computing from scientific research toward practical, large-scale applications.

Joining QuEra's Facilities team means supporting the specialized laboratories and infrastructure where our quantum computers are designed, assembled, tested, and operated. Reliable electrical, mechanical, cooling, environmental, and life-safety systems are essential to the safety of our employees and the performance of our technology.

Job Summary

QuEra is seeking a hands-on Senior Facilities Engineer to support the operation, maintenance, reliability, and continuous improvement of our laboratories, technical spaces, and office facilities.

This individual will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, monitor the Building Management System, respond to facility incidents, oversee service providers, and support infrastructure projects. The position requires substantial knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems and the judgment to independently troubleshoot moderately complex facility issues while following established procedures.

The successful candidate will be comfortable managing routine work with limited supervision, collaborating with internal engineering teams, mentoring less-experienced team members, and escalating higher-risk or more complex issues when appropriate.

Responsibilities
Facility and Infrastructure Maintenance
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility equipment and building systems.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and coordinate maintenance of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, cooling, and life-safety systems.
  • Monitor the Building Management System and respond to alarms involving temperature, humidity, cooling, electrical systems, and other facility conditions.
  • Investigate facility alarms and abnormal operating conditions, using established procedures and sound judgment to resolve or elevate issues.
  • Operate and maintain building systems, including HVAC and chilled-water equipment, plumbing, fire-suppression systems, emergency power equipment, and safety systems.
  • Support the operation of electrical distribution, generators, UPS systems, air handlers, pumps, and other facility infrastructure.
  • Monitor laboratory temperature and humidity and respond to environmental conditions that could affect sensitive equipment or ongoing technical work.
  • Perform routine facility rounds and document equipment readings, conditions, alarms, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
  • Support energy-efficiency measures and building-system optimization initiatives.
  • Perform routine and moderately complex work with limited supervision and provide support or guidance to other facilities team members.
  • Escalate conditions that could affect employee safety, laboratory operations, sensitive equipment, or business continuity.
Vendor Support
  • Coordinate and oversee service providers performing maintenance, repair, inspection, installation, or testing activities.
  • Support QuEra's work-approval process by reviewing planned scope, conducting pre-work briefings, monitoring vendor activities, and completing post-work inspections.
  • Confirm that vendor work is performed in accordance with QuEra's safety requirements, operating procedures, site rules, and approved scope.
  • Coordinate vendor access to mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, laboratories, rooftops, and other controlled areas.
  • Validate that equipment and building systems have been returned to normal operation following vendor work.
  • Support updates to equipment records, technical files, drawings, manuals, and as-built documentation.
  • Identify incomplete or deficient vendor work and coordinate corrective action.
Site Administration and Incident Support
  • Prepare and maintain facility logs, permits, inspection records, maintenance documentation, and equipment records.
  • Develop or support Maintenance Operation Protocols (MOPs), standard operating procedures, emergency operating procedures, and maintenance scripts.
  • Identify single points of failure and recommend practical measures to reduce operational risk.
  • Respond to facility incidents, including equipment failures, utility interruptions, water leaks, temperature or humidity excursions, fire-system alarms, and other abnormal conditions.
  • Assist with incident investigation, recovery, root-cause analysis, documentation, and follow-up corrective actions.
  • Follow established escalation and communication procedures.
  • Support emergency-response activities and communicate facility conditions.
  • Maintain accurate records in QuEra's work-order or computerized maintenance-management system.
