Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking a Senior Facilities Design Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design for high-performance facilities supporting launch, manufacturing, test, and office operations. You will serve as the EOR on major projects, coordinating with architects, civil, structural, and process engineers to deliver integrated, code-compliant designs.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited degree required.
  • Active Professional Engineer license in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of progressive electrical design experience for facilities/building systems.
  • Experience as Engineer of Record on medium to large-scale facilities projects.
  • Experience with high-bay production spaces, propulsion/test facilities, or similar mission-critical environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design efforts for large-scale aerospace/manufacturing facilities: power distribution, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
  • Develop and review drawings, specs, calculations, and deliverables per NEC, NFPA, IBC, IFC.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) for electrical systems on applicable projects.
  • Coordinate with architects, civil, structural, mechanical, and process engineers for integrated designs.
  • Manage external design consultants and contractors to maintain design intent and quality.
  • Conduct site surveys, field inspections, RFIs, and submittal reviews.
  • Develop electrical design standards and best practices; perform load, short-circuit, arc-flash, and voltage-drop analyses.
  • Support commissioning and coordinate with operations for turnover; mentor junior staff.

In this role, you will lead the electrical design of complex, high-performance facilities that support our launch, manufacturing, test, and office operations. You will serve as a subject matter expert and technical lead on capital projects ranging from new construction to major renovations across our growing portfolio of large-scale aerospace and advanced manufacturing facilities . These facilities present unique and technically demanding electrical design challenges — including high-power distribution, precision manufacturing environments, propulsion test support infrastructure, and mission-critical systems — requiring a seasoned engineer who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You will ensure all designs meet code requirements, operational needs, and the exceptionally high standards of Blue Origin.ResponsibilitiesLead and manage electrical design efforts for large-scale aerospace and manufacturing facilities including power distribution, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, and low-voltage systemsDevelop and review design drawings, specifications, calculations, and engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, IBC, IFC, etc.)Serve as the Engineer of Record (EOR) for electrical systems on applicable projectsApply in-depth knowledge of the unique electrical demands of aerospace manufacturing, propulsion test, and launch support facilities , including high-power feeds, sensitive equipment grounding, and classified/hazardous area designCoordinate with architects, civil, structural, mechanical, and process engineers to deliver fully integrated facility designsManage and review work performed by external design consultants and contractors, ensuring design intent and quality standards are maintainedConduct site surveys, field inspections, and construction administration activities including RFI and submittal reviewsDevelop and maintain electrical design standards, guidelines, and best practices for Blue Origin facilitiesPerform load calculations, short circuit analysis, arc flash studies, and voltage drop analysisSupport commissioning activities and coordinate with operations teams for system startup and turnoverIdentify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in facility designsMentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and design staffPartner with Project Managers to support project scheduling, budgeting, and scope developmentMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institutionActive Professional Engineering (PE) license in Electrical Engineering10+ years of progressive electrical design experience, with a focus on facilities/building systemsDemonstrated experience as Engineer of Record on medium to large-scale facilities projectsProven experience designing electrical systems for large, complex aerospace, defense, or advanced manufacturing facilities , including high-bay production spaces, propulsion or mechanical test facilities, or similar mission-critical environmentsProficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or similar)Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards including NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 101, IBC , and relevant local codesExperience with medium-voltage power distribution systems (up to 35kV)Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environmentStrong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information to diverse audiencesPreferred QualificationsMaster's degree in Electrical Engineering or related fieldPE license in multiple states5+ years of direct experience supporting electrical design for aerospace vehicle manufacturing, rocket propulsion test stands, launch complexes, or similarly complex industrial facilitiesExperience designing electrical systems for high-bay manufacturing environments , including overhead crane power systems, large process equipment feeds, and facility-wide power monitoringFamiliarity with hazardous location (classified area) design per NEC Article 500/505Experience with large medium-voltage switchgear, unit substations, and campus-level electrical distribution infrastructureExperience with energy modeling, LEED certification, or sustainability initiativesExperience with BIM/3D design workflows and model coordinationWorking ConditionsAbility to work in both office and active construction/industrial environmentsOccasional travel to Blue Origin sites may be required (up to 25%)Must be able to stand, walk, and navigate active construction sitesBase Pay Range for:WA applicants is $145,188.00 - $203,263.20Other site ranges may differCulture StatementDon’t meet all desired requirements?
