Job summary

AAA is seeking a Sr Accountant - External Financial Reporting to manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting tasks and special projects within a regulated environment. You will collaborate with Investments, Tax, Payroll, Benefits, and Legal to ensure accuracy of the annual statements and coordinate with external auditors for audits.

You will work on Employee Benefits Plan audits, insurance regulatory filings, and research new accounting pronouncements for management impact.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent.
• Active CPA license, or at least 1 CPA exam section passed with the intention to complete all remaining exam sections, is preferred but not required.
• At least 3 years of progressive and relevant accounting experience, with Big 4 or mid-tier public accounting experience in auditing preferred.
• Accounting, auditing, or financial reporting experience in the insurance industry is strongly preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently with Executive Management in the organization.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
• Strong analytical and organization skills with willingness to work extra hours to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and prepare the organization's annual audited financial statements.
• Work cross-functional with Investments, Tax, Payroll, Benefits, and Legal departments to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the annual audited financial statements.
• Coordinate with external auditors to ensure timely completion of the audits.
• Coordinate with external auditors to ensure timely completion of Employee Benefits Plan audits.
• Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual insurance regulatory filings.
• Prepare monthly financial reporting package of affiliated company.
• Prepare annual regulatory analyses and reports supporting the insurance entities.
• Research and analyze new US GAAP and Statutory basis accounting pronouncements and disclosure requirements.
• Research, prepare, and present analysis of new accounting pronouncements to Executive Management.
• Work with Executive Management on significant initiatives and provide input and analysis.
• Assist in analyzing and documenting current accounting practices and implementing improvements to policies, procedures, and the financial reporting processes.
• Support special projects or ad-hoc tasks as assigned by management.
