Position Responsibilities:

The Senior Executive Assistant- Legal, will report directly to the Executive Vice President- General Counsel and Secretary. This role is a mix of executive assistant responsibilities, including board support, and project-based work. Successful candidates for this role should possess the skills and capabilities necessary to provide executive-level support.You will manage multiple high priorities, handle sensitive business matters with confidentiality and professionalism, and should be someone who thrives under pressure.

This role requires an individual with the proven ability to consistently perform at the highest level and with the utmost regard for Lilly Values (Integrity, Excellence, and Respect for People). In particular, the role requires exceptional abilities in the following areas:

In addition to the above, this role requires an individual who performs at the highest skill level in each of the following areas of responsibility:


Communication Management:

  • Serving as the key contact person, helping to build relationships- as well as minimizing disruptions on behalf of the General Counsel.

  • Communicating independently in response to incoming requests from external and internal sources.

  • Maintaining direct, open, and constant communication with the General Counsel regardless of the location of either.

  • Preparing letters, documents, and presentations from vague concepts / ideas whiledemonstrating strong writing skills and ability to provide feedback on confidential executive documents.

Schedule Management:

  • Prioritizing and organizing the General Counsel’s time to ensure maximum efficiency. Ensuring the General Counsel has all prep materials in advance to allow for adequate review time.

  • Traveling to local and remote meeting sites and personally directing activities at special functions; have responsibilities for coordinating major communication events.

  • Screening and communicating which activities, meetings, events, etc. the General Counsel will or will not be able to attend and coordinating all arrangements for attendance at those functions.

  • Arranging all travel, with every detail finalized (details will include complete itinerary with hotel, ground transportation, meeting sites, participants with their bios/resumes).

Board-facing work

  • Coordinatinglogistics support for company processes and employee interactions.

  • Providing administrative support and preparing for Board meetings.

Project-based work & Technological/AI proficiency

  • Planning and facilitating team meetings, townhalls& other legal events.

  • Leading the use of technology by partnering across Lilly and sharing with GC

  • Creating engaging presentations and providing input on executive documents including townhalls.

  • Partnering with the Legal/E & C Innovation Office to automate tasks and be a champion for simplifying and automating work where possible.

Office Management:

  • Signing for and/or approving, contingent on delegation authority, on behalf of the General Counsel, communication materials, reports, or external associations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma and/or GED.

  • 8-10 years working in a matrix organization.

  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization and/or visas for this role.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Being flexible and on call outside the regular workday, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and vacation time and being available by cell phone, e-mail, and/or voice mail.

  • Business knowledge (company and component level): priorities, policies, and procedures

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage complex calendars

  • Successful candidate will be comfortable in dealing with upper levels of senior management both internally and externally, handle company confidential information

  • Ability to work independently with a high level of self-management, in a dynamic work environment

  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes in priorities, to manage multiple diverse tasks, to maintain accuracy, and to meet tight deadlines

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Detail oriented

  • Problem solving / issue resolution

  • Flexibility to adjust plans, work style, and methods as needed

  • Strong technical skills and proficiency in all utilized systems (e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AI)

  • Creative skills in creating presentations and/or producing videos

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$29.56 - $49.28

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
