Job description

Our client is a leading Mining Owner Company looking to strengthen their PMO office with a Senior Estimator.

This role is ideal for a highly competitive, results-oriented individual eager to advance their career in the Heavy Civil sector by contributing to the development of our company’s PMO & Estimating team. The projects include Mining, Heavy Industrial, and Civil works such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Piping, pipelines, conveyors, and Processing facilities — experience in these areas is essential.

The Senior Estimator will thrive in a fast-paced office environment and will be responsible for the timely and accurate completion of tenders from initiation through to closing. As this is a new position within the PMO office, the successful candidate will need to manage systems, processes, and procedures, and lead their rollout and implementation across the division.

Applicants should have a post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, along with several years of experience in the construction industry within a general contracting environment.

This is a rotational position initially lasting several months, with the potential to become permanent. The rotation schedule and location preferences (US, Canada, overseas) will be discussed, considering visa requirements.

  • Collaborate effectively with the PMO office and teams in civil, piping, pipeline, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
  • Develop and prepare cost codes for operations.
  • Complete pre-feasibility studies, risk assessments, order of magnitude estimates, and quantity take-offs across trades, including labor, materials, and equipment (excluding mechanical and electrical disciplines).
  • Analyze subcontractor scopes and select the most complete and competitive bids from EPC contractors.
  • Prepare tender submissions and ensure timely submission on closing day.
  • Understand project workflows, including construction schedules, tie-ins, and shutdowns.
  • Meet tender deadlines and perform effectively under tight schedules on bid day.
  • Manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
  • Negotiate the best pricing with suppliers and subcontractors within company ethics guidelines.
  • Review drawings and specifications to ensure complete scope coverage.
  • Proficient in HARD DOLLAR or HEAVYBID software; experience with Primavera P6 is a plus.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Work well independently and as part of a team, with strong time management skills.
  • Exhibit effective negotiation and diplomacy skills.

Offers include:

  • A commitment to workplace safety.
  • A competitive salary with annual discretionary bonuses.
  • A comprehensive benefits package including dental, medical, and vision coverage.
  • An excellent pension plan matched by the company.
  • Ownership and equity potential within the company.
  • Opportunities for career development and advancement.
