Job summary

Peckham Industries, Inc. is seeking a Sr. Estimator to oversee estimating for all projects, lead a team of estimators, and implement processes for accurate bids.

The role focuses on large DOT projects, thorough market analysis, and collaboration with project managers and engineers to ensure competitive, compliant estimates. The candidate will prepare detailed estimates, takeoffs, and cost breakdowns, while mentoring the team and fitting within our safety- and value-driven culture.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in asphalt paving/heavy highway construction estimating.
• Proficient in estimating processes and cost analysis for large projects.
• Proficient in English (verbal and written).
• Legal right to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of estimators; drive results.
• Review plans and specs to define scope and prepare bids.
• Prepare comprehensive project documentation including estimates and takeoffs.
• Conduct extensive market analysis and risk assessment.
• Assign estimating responsibilities for each project.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to gather project data.
• Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing.
• Evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers for competitiveness and compliance.
• Proficient in MASSDOT/CTDOT standards where applicable.
• Ensure accurate cost breakdowns and bid packages for DOT projects.

Position Description

Job Summary

The Sr. Estimator is responsible for oversight of the estimating process for all projects. They will perform extensive market analysis, review past performances, and analyze the historical cost for projects. Lead and mentor a team of estimators while reinforcing our company mission statement and corporate values. Develop and implement processes and procedures for estimating functions. Estimate large DOT projects in their entirety.

• 9. Compulsive Tinkering. Evaluate and analyze bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitiveness and compliance with project requirements.
• 10. Obligated. Proficient in MASSDOT and CTDOT Standard Specifications

Position Requirements

Requirements, Education, and Experience

• 1. B.S. in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, preferred.
• 2. 5+ Years of experience in Asphalt Paving/ Heavy Highway construction estimating.
• 3. A record of successfully estimating projects between $5M and $25M
• 4. Proficient in B2W Estimating Software, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project
• 5. Proficient verbal and written English
• 6. Legal right to work in the U.S.

Travel

The position may require up to 20% travel by personal vehicle to offices throughout New England based on the needs of the business.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

This is mostly sedentary outside of traveling to construction sites. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers. The job will require frequent traveling in the field and various construction sites. This would require the ability to sit at a desk, frequent walking, bend or stand as necessary.
