Job summary

Summit Line Construction, a leading utility construction company, is seeking a Senior Estimator to prepare and oversee detailed cost estimates for complex foundation projects across the electrical infrastructure industry. You will analyze plans, specs, and related documents to determine costs of labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors, while mentoring junior estimators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil or construction engineering, or relevant field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction cost estimating or relevant construction experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Extensive knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze project plans and specifications to understand the scope of work.
  • Interpret requests for proposals, project specifications, and pricing schedules.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Perform and review material, labor, and equipment take-offs and cost analyses to support estimates.
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee the maintenance of cost databases.
  • Prepare and review pre-approval project estimates based on drawings, narratives, and general scopes of work.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and competitive estimates.
  • Attend and lead pre-bid meetings, collaborations, and conferences with clients and design professionals.
  • Define division of responsibilities, draft scope letters, proposals, and vendor solicitations.
  • Work with clients on questions and clarifications post-bid submission.
  • Assist project teams with questions regarding construction and contractual requirements.
  • Analyze historical data and project performance to improve future estimates.
  • Develop weighting criteria for proposal evaluations.
  • Analyze risks and develop weighted risk registers pertaining to foundation construction risks and opportunities.
  • Review estimates with estimating manager, the operations and executive teams.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Manage change orders and cost-to-complete estimates of ongoing projects.
  • Participate in and lead bid reviews and presentations.
  • Prepare and submit proposal documents to clients.
  • Provide expert judgment of costs to support competitive bid and negotiated contracts.
  • Prepare and facilitate internal turnover meetings.
  • Mentor and guide junior estimators.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for the estimating team.

Position Overview:

The Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing and overseeing the preparation of accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for complex foundation projects across the electrical infrastructure industry. Key Responsibilities
What You'll Do
  • Scope Analysis:

Qualifications
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil or construction engineering, or relevant experience in a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction cost estimating or relevant construction experience, with a focus on drilled shaft, flatwork, and shallow foundations for electrical infrastructure or heavy civil construction projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Extensive knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator) are a plus.
