Job description

Salary: $118,000 - $183,000

SUMMARY
The Senior Estimator will lead estimates, proposals, and budgets for marine construction, dredging, and heavy-civil/structural projects. They will manage an estimating/pursuit team that may include engineers, estimators, and support staff. Projects can range from sub-$100,000 to over $1 billion, for Manson-independent pursuits, joint ventures, or subcontracted work. Projects may be bid-build, design-build, or alternative delivery methods. The position primarily involves estimates in a regional office but may require support across other regions. Successful pursuits will be handed over to operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: including but not limited to:

  • Lead estimating team for accurate and timely delivery of estimates, proposals, and budgets.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Analyze contract documents to prepare cost estimates.
  • Develop and evaluate cost factors, proposals, and budgets.
  • Conduct studies to develop standard costs and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, and team members on estimates and issues.
  • Attend project site meetings, tours, and debriefs as needed.
  • Maintain historical cost records.
  • Prepare project summaries and risk assessments.
  • Coordinate bid package preparations.
  • Research construction methods and collaborate internally for innovative estimating approaches.
  • Coordinate with external geotechnical and specialty engineers and subcontractors.
  • Prepare detailed material and labor cost estimates.
  • Evaluate subcontractor proposals for acceptability and cost reasonableness.
  • Draft proposal letters and technical narratives.
  • Estimate projects across locations where Manson operates.
  • Ensure compliance with ethics and safety standards.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and lead regional engineers and estimating staff, including performance evaluations.
  • Assist in strategic planning and market/project selection.
  • Work closely with senior management on project development.
  • Oversee training programs and support career development.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management with at least 15 years of relevant experience. Other engineering degrees and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership and team management preferred.
  • Experience in maritime construction environments is preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Office Suite, SharePoint, Adobe, Bluebeam, Primavera, MS Teams, Zoom, and estimating software like HCSS HeavyBid.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to interpret technical documents, communicate effectively with management and stakeholders, and prepare senior-level reports.

REASONING AND MATH ABILITY

Strong problem-solving skills, ability to interpret instructions, and working knowledge of mathematical concepts relevant to estimating.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Primarily office-based in Seattle or regional offices, with potential travel to job sites and meetings. Work hours align with office location, with accommodations as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Exposure to weather, moderate to loud noise levels, and the need to wear PPE. Ability to lift weights up to 25 pounds and navigate construction environments.
