Job summary

Michael Kinder & Sons seeks a Senior Estimator to lead detailed cost estimates and bid packages for hard bid and negotiated projects from $1M to $100MM. You will review drawings, specs, and vendor quotes to develop accurate budgets and robust proposals.

Join a collaborative estimating team focused on client satisfaction, risk identification, and proactive value engineering, delivering precise estimates while educating owners to optimize investments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
  • Commercial Construction experience of 8 years.
  • Estimating Software experience of 5 years.
  • Estimating experience of 5 years.
  • Excellent writing, organizational and computer skills (MS Excel, MS Word).
  • In-depth knowledge of plans and specifications on various construction project types.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Final Review of Contract Documents, General Requirements, and Scope.
  • Identify Risks, Clarifications, Assumptions, and Exclusions Prior to Submission.
  • Ensure Compliance with Procurement and Contracting Requirements.
  • Assign Scope Packages and Responsibilities to Estimating Team Members.
  • Review Pricing, Quantities, and Scope Coverage for Accuracy and Completeness.
  • Compile, Finalize, and Submit Project Estimates and Bid Packages.
  • Maintain Professional Communication with Clients, Architects, and Trade Partners.
  • Develop Strong Relationships with Subcontractors and Vendors.
  • Support Preconstruction and Business Development Efforts.
  • Perform Detailed Digital Quantity Takeoffs and Cost Analysis.
  • Develop Accurate Budget, GMP, and Hard Bid Estimates.
  • Analyze Drawings, Specifications, and Existing Conditions.
  • Solicit and Evaluate Current Material and Equipment Pricing.
  • Develop Accurate Self-Perform Cost Estimates and Production Rates.
  • Identify Cost-Saving Opportunities and Constructability Improvements.
  • Manage Bid Invitations and Subcontractor Solicitation Effort.
  • Evaluate Scope Coverage and Level Pricing Across Trade Partners.
  • Review Pricing, Qualifications, and Value Engineering Opportunities.
  • Mentor and Support Estimators and Junior Team Members.
  • Lead Internal Estimate Reviews and Strategy Discussions
  • Participate in Client Presentations and Preconstruction Meetings
  • Analyze Historical Cost Data to Improve Estimating Accuracy
  • Maintain Estimating Databases, Assemblies, and Cost Libraries
  • Drive Continuous Improvement of Departmental Processes and SOPs

The Estimating Team of Michael Kinder & Sons is focused on preparing detailed estimates and proposals for hard bid and negotiated projects ranging from $1M to $100MM. Projects from multiple industries, including universities to restaurants to industrial to nonprofit, etc., may include conceptional, schematic, design development, and construction document estimates. Senior Estimators who value client satisfaction rather than a race to the lowest bidder would excel at Michael Kinder & Sons as MKS estimators do more than procure numbers; they educate owners to make sure they get the most out of their investment.
