Job summary

Ausenco is seeking a Senior Estimator (Minerals & Metals) for its Tucson or Denver office. The role focuses on developing accurate estimates, data collection, and coordination with engineering and procurement to support PEAs, PFS, and FS projects.

The ideal candidate will have extensive estimating experience in minerals/metals, an engineering degree or related field, and strong analytical and communication skills essential for successful project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in a similar role with engineering consulting or construction in minerals/metals.
  • Engineering degree or related field with site experience is a plus.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accuracy of estimates by data collection and entry into estimates.
  • Develop estimate plans, bases of estimates, and project estimates through models and reviews.
  • Coordinate with engineering and management to gather scope and quantities for accurate estimates.
  • Coordinate with procurement for budgetary quotations.
  • Organize estimates by WBS and discipline; calculate wages, unit rates, quantities, and costs.
  • Contribute to maintaining estimate unit rates for labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Run simulations to establish contingency, escalation, and reserves.
  • Manage project changes impacting estimates with management and engineering teams.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers and contractors through clear communication.

Our team in the US is growing, we are currently recruiting for a Senior Estimator (Minerals & Metals) to join our Tucson or Denver office.

About The Role
  • Maintain accuracy of estimates by collecting and entering appropriate data into estimates
  • Develop estimate plans, basis of estimates, and estimates for projects through managing estimate models, collecting, entering data, and conducting regular reviews
  • Work with Engineering disciplines and Project Management to collect all necessary data on scope and quantities to prepare an accurate estimate in all specialty discipline areas.
  • Coordinate with Procurement team for all request for budgetary quotations
  • Organize estimates by the work breakdown structure and discipline, calculate wage and unit rates, check quantities and scope, calculate productivity factor and prepare field and office costs.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of estimate unit rates within assigned disciplines: labor, equipment and materials
  • Conduct simulations or other required methods to establish project contingency, escalation, risk and all other reserves
  • Manage any changes that will impact on estimates through continual contact with all levels of Management, Project Managers and the Engineering Department to determine required changes and have these incorporated
  • Maintain a good working relationship with external suppliers and contractors through effective and ongoing communication strategies
Qualifications - External
  • Extensive experience in a similar role with an engineering consulting firm and/or construction company preferably in the minerals and metal sector. The emphasis for this role is support of PEA/PFS/FS projects but experience in an EPC/EPCM context will also be an asset.
  • A degree or diploma in engineering, applied science/ related field or extensive experience (site experience or trade background would also be an advantage but not essential).
  • Sound numerical, conceptual and analytical skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Experience with NI 43-101 and SK1300 reporting
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working on a project team.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Power point) required
  • Previous experience with industrial estimating software preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable interfacing with clients and all levels of management.
