Job summary

Francis O. Day Co., Inc. in Rockville, MD is seeking a Senior Estimator to prepare accurate cost estimates and bid proposals for heavy civil construction, site development, grading, excavation, paving, and public works.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of heavy highway/site work estimating experience; HCSS and design-build experience required.
• Ability to interpret civil plans, specifications, and contract documents; perform quantity takeoffs.
• Knowledge of labor, equipment, materials, trucking, subcontractor costs and cost factors.

Responsibilities

• Review bid invitations, plans, specifications, addenda, and contract documents; identify scope requirements and deadlines.
• Complete quantity takeoffs and estimate labor, materials, equipment, trucking, subcontractors, and other project costs.
• Analyze production rates, site conditions, construction methods, haul distances, and project risks.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier/subcontractor quotes; prepare bid summaries, proposals, assumptions, and exclusions.
• Identify scope gaps, discrepancies, constructability issues, and pricing risks; communicate questions and changes before submission.
• Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, operations, purchasing, and leadership; participate in site visits and bid reviews.
• Support awarded-project handoff, budget setup, cost comparisons, and continuous improvement of estimating tools and procedures.
• Provide estimating guidance and review support to team members as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY

Prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates and bid proposals for heavy civil construction, site development , grading, excavation, paving, and public works. • Knowledge of labor , equipment, materials , trucking, subcontractor costs, production rates , and job cost factors .
• Proficiency with estimating so ftware and Microsoft Excel; able to manage multiple bid deadlines accurately.

PERFORMANCE & WORK ENVIRONMENT

Deliver complete, accurate, and timely bids ; identify risks and scope gaps ; protect company margin ; maintain organized estimate records; and communicate clearly with management and project teams . Prima r ily office-based , with occasional site visits and possible extended hours near bid deadlines.
