Job summary

Wesbuilt Construction Managers is seeking a Senior Estimator to lead detailed line-item budgeting from schematic through subcontractor contract execution. The role requires meticulous attention to detail and ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with fixed deadlines.

The ideal candidate has 7–10 years of estimating experience in general contracting, strong knowledge of cost drivers, and proficiency with Procore, Sage Estimating, and Bluebeam. NYC project experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • 7–10 years of experience in construction estimating with a track record of bidding and winning projects.
  • New York City experience is preferred.

Job Summary:

As a Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for accurately estimating the total costs associated with a project by executing a detailed line‑item budget by trade with unit costs and bringing project budgets from schematic stage through to subcontractor contract execution. The ideal candidate must have an acute attention to detail and demonstrated ability to work well in a fast‑paced environment with fixed deadlines.

Responsibilities:
  • Project Evaluation: Review project plans, specifications, and other documents to understand the scope of work, materials required, and labor needs.
  • Cost Estimation: Utilize industry‑standard estimating techniques and software to prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
  • Bid Preparation: Prepare and submit competitive bids and proposals based on thorough cost analysis, ensuring alignment with project requirements and budget constraints.
  • Supplier and Subcontractor Relations: Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing for materials and services, negotiate contracts, and establish strong working relationships.
  • Value Engineering: Identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering solutions without compromising quality or safety standards.
  • Risk Assessment: Evaluate potential risks and uncertainties associated with construction projects and develop strategies to mitigate them effectively.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate project cost forecasting and seamless project execution.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends, construction methods, and market pricing to enhance estimating accuracy and efficiency.
  • Cost Tracking and Reporting: Monitor project costs throughout the construction process, track changes, and provide regular reports to management and project teams.
Professional Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in construction estimating, with a proven track record of successfully bidding and winning projects in the general contracting industry.
  • New York City experience is preferred.
Key Skills & Knowledge:
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., Procore, Sage Estimating, Bluebeam), as well as Microsoft Excel and other relevant software tools.
  • Knowledge: Thorough understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes. Familiarity with project management principles and construction contracts.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy in cost estimation.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively negotiate, collaborate, and present complex information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including the ability to mentor junior estimators and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced construction environment.
  • Ethical Standards: Commitment to upholding ethical standards, integrity, and professionalism in all aspects of work.
Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet project deadlines and attend client meetings.
  • Physical ability to visit construction sites and perform on‑site assessments as necessary.
