Job summary

The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County is seeking an Equipment Operator Sr for Fleet Roadside Assistance. This full-time Civil Service role, located in the Office of Fleet Management within General Services, involves operating heavy and light duty wreckers and related roadside support equipment.

Responsibilities include safe operation, equipment maintenance, map reading, and occasional training of staff. A Class B CDL is required, with potential for day or evening shifts.

Qualifications

• 8th grade education and 1 year of verifiable experience operating gasoline or diesel-powered equipment or vehicles.
• Valid Class B or higher Commercial Driver License.
• 6 month probationary/training period with demonstrated proficiency in driving and operating equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy and light duty wreckers to transport city vehicles and equipment.
• Safely and efficiently operate wreckers, tires trucks and related equipment.
• Read maps and use hands-free GPS devices.
• Utilize vehicle lifting tools and safety equipment (jacks, jack stands).
• Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on equipment.
• Prepare written documentation of inspections and defects.
• Operate light duty salt truck to clear parking lots.
• Maintain and operate equipment and tools.
• Operate various equipment/vehicles of equal or lesser skill.
• Assist in training lesser skilled employees.
