Job summary

The City of Columbia SC is seeking a skilled equipment operator to support the construction, maintenance and repair of city facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. The role involves operating a wide range of equipment, loading and unloading materials, and ensuring safe, efficient work under general supervision.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, two years of relevant experience, and a valid SC Class A driver's license with no L/O restrictions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of relevant prior experience preferred.
• Valid South Carolina Class A Driver’s License with no L or O restrictions.
• May have Trench and Shoring Certification and Asbestos Certification.

Responsibilities

• Operate light and heavy equipment and trucks to excavate, load/unload materials and maintain City properties.
• Operate dump trucks, front-end loaders, skid steers and other heavy machinery as needed.
• Load/unload materials onto vehicles and use hand/power tools for tasks.
• Inspect equipment for safety, report defects and assist with routine maintenance.
• Follow policies, keep accurate records, and assist coworkers as required.
