ADVANCE YOUR CAREER. ADVANCE THE WORLD.
At AMD, we believe technology can change lives for the better. It can heal us, entertain us, and make us more connected, productive, and understanding of the world around us. And we’re looking for talent who feel the same: people who want to leave the planet better than they found it, those who don’t shy away from humanity’s challenges but are determined to help solve them.
AMD is powering the next generation of supercomputing, high-performance computing, cloud, and AI. Whether you’re designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or creating go-to-market plans, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger — technology that moves the world forward.

The Role
AMD is seeking a Senior Equipment Engineer to join our Automated Test Equipment (ATE) Lab in Austin, Texas. In this highly visible, hands‑on role, you will be responsible for the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of the critical equipment used to validate and manufacture AMD's next‑generation semiconductor products.
As the technical expert for ATE systems, you will partner with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to solve complex equipment challenges, improve uptime, and drive operational excellence. You will also play a key role in mentoring technicians, developing best practices, and supporting the introduction of new technologies into the lab environment.
The Person
You are a hands‑on problem solver who enjoys tackling complex technical issues and driving them to resolution. You thrive in fast‑paced environments, take ownership of results, and are recognized as a trusted technical resource by your peers.
The ideal candidate combines deep equipment expertise with strong communication skills, a continuous improvement mindset, and a passion for mentoring others. You are equally comfortable troubleshooting critical hardware issues, developing scalable processes, and leveraging data‑driven insights to improve reliability and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own the reliability, performance, and operational readiness of ATE lab equipment and infrastructure.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for complex equipment issues, leading root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Drive equipment uptime, yield improvement, and manufacturing efficiency through data-driven problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain maintenance plans, troubleshooting procedures, response flows, and Best Known Methods (BKMs).
  • Partner with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to support new technology introductions and equipment readiness.
  • Mentor technicians and engineers while leveraging automation, analytics, and AI‑enabled tools to improve diagnostics and operational effectiveness.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience supporting semiconductor Automated Test Equipment (ATE) in a manufacturing or lab environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting expertise with electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical systems, including root cause analysis and hardware debug.
  • Hands‑on experience with ATE platforms and associated hardware, including Advantest, Cohu, and Hontech/Huntech equipment.
  • Knowledge of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, digital multimeters, schematics, and electronic test methodologies.
  • Experience developing technical procedures, maintenance documentation, and training materials to support operational excellence.
  • Familiarity with data analytics, automation, Python, or AI‑assisted diagnostics used to improve equipment reliability and manufacturing performance.
Academic Credentials
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Relevant certifications in semiconductor manufacturing, equipment engineering, reliability, or automation are a plus.
