Job summary

Aeluma in Santa Barbara, CA is seeking a Senior Epitaxy Engineer to lead development, optimization and scale of semiconductor epitaxial processes for our photonics technologies. This role translates device and material requirements into robust epi structures and works cross-functionally to ensure objectives are met.

You will become the resident expert in epitaxy and materials characterization, collaborating with device, fabrication and test teams to advance epi process performance and yield.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
• Strong semiconductor materials science and epitaxial background preferred.
• 5+ years direct experience in epitaxial development for electronic/optoelectronic/photonic devices.
• Proficiency in SQL Server for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make data-driven decisions.
• Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Own epi layer and reactor recipe development for next-generation electronic and photonic devices.
• Design, execute and optimize epitaxial growth recipes and device layer stacks to improve film quality, yield and device performance.
• Analyze wafer characterization data (e.g. Optical Microscopy, TEM, AFM, XRD, AFM, PL, bow/warp, etc) and contribute to characterization methodologies for novel epi processes.
• Coordinate closely with engineering teams on material design and requirements.
• Lead design of experiments, process optimization, data analysis and root cause investigations relating to epitaxial recipe development.
• Establish and maintain process control methodologies for epitaxial processes.
• Monitor CVD tool daily operation and collaborate with equipment/facilities to align with epitaxial development requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement in epitaxial team operations.
• Responsible for technical project reporting and driving technical roadmap to meet program objectives.

Position Summary:

The Senior Epitaxy Engineer will lead the development, optimization and scale of semiconductor epitaxial processes for Aeluma's advanced photonics technologies. This role will be responsible for translating device and material requirements into robust epitaxial structures and processes. The engineer will work closely and cross-functionally with device engineering, fabrication and test teams to ensure epitaxial processes meet objectives. The Senior Epitaxy Engineer should be a resident expert in epitaxy and materials characterization for Aeluma's processes.
