Job Summary
The anticipated duration of this temporary assignment is approximately 6 months.
Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Oversight
Lead and manage the mpox Epidemiology (Epi) Unit within the Epidemiology, Surveillance, and Data Team.
Supervise and coordinate activities of team members involved in data gathering, analysis, and reporting.
Oversee the collection, linking, and reporting of mpox surveillance data.
Conduct analysis of epidemiological data to understand trends and disseminate findings to:
Decision-makers
Local Health Jurisdictions (LHJs)
The public
Evaluate clinical, social, and behavioral risk factors contributing to mpox infection, severe illness, and death.
Collaborate with California Department of Public Health (CDPH) colleagues on mpox prevention and control efforts.
Contribute to investigating clusters and outbreaks of mpox.
Develop guidance documents and protocols for:
Gathering, linking, and reporting mpox data
Prevention and control measures for LHJs and the public

Department Description
UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.
Required Qualifications
In-depth knowledge of research function. Advanced skills associated with statistical analysis, database management and systems programming. Advanced skills in analysis and consultation. Advanced ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing. Advanced project management skills. Ability to lead and influence within and external to project team. Advanced research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations. Advanced ability to think creatively to recommend action steps or strategize solutions relative to research.
