A Brief Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Environmental Technical Claims Specialist to join our team. This position can be based in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Omaha, Richmond (VA), Rockwood (PA), San Antonio, or remotely within the continental United States. The role reports to a manager in New York City and involves adjudicating complex first and third-party commercial environmental claims, primarily related to storage tanks, and delivering excellent results for our clients.

The primary duties and responsibilities include:

  1. Adjudicating complex commercial environmental claims within authority limits, under broad management oversight, impacting departmental results.
  2. Conducting detailed investigations and analysis to resolve issues.
  3. Reporting claims trends and developments to senior management and underwriters.
  4. Analyzing policies, forms, endorsements, and client instructions to assess coverage.
  5. Investigating claims thoroughly, including interviewing involved parties.
  6. Managing claims in litigation and ensuring timely resolution.
  7. Setting appropriate claim reserves considering policy wording.
  8. Identifying loss drivers and trends to reduce claims severity through data analysis.
  9. Coordinating expertise resources for case resolution.
  10. Preparing documentation reports and applying creative solutions for optimal financial outcomes.
  11. Negotiating effectively to reach cost-efficient solutions.
  12. Processing correspondence and managing workload priorities.
  13. Maintaining strong claim management passion and professionalism.

Core qualifications and requirements:

  1. Good business acumen understanding how insurance companies operate and profit.
  2. At least seven years of experience adjudicating commercial environmental claims with exposures of $100,000 or more.
  3. Bachelor's degree required; J.D. preferred; or equivalent experience and insurance designations.
  4. Licensed Claims Examiner or ability to obtain license within 120 days.
  5. Excellent communication, evaluation, strategic, and negotiation skills.
  6. Customer-focused with effective time management and workload prioritization.
  7. Ability to articulate financial impacts at various organizational levels.
  8. Discretion, judgment, and integrity in decision-making.
  9. Resilience, adaptability, and a solutions-oriented mindset.
  10. Strong relationship-building skills and curiosity to explore options.
  11. Proficiency in MS Office and excellent written/verbal communication skills.
