Job summary

Iowa State University is seeking an Environmental Systems Mechanic II to maintain and repair HVAC systems, refrigeration, and related controls on campus. You will operate building automation systems to monitor performance, collect data, and ensure reliability through proactive maintenance and diagnostics.

The role requires deep technical knowledge of environmental systems, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to train and supervise trades apprentices.

Qualifications

• Six years of experience in HVAC, refrigeration, or building automation systems, or two years in BAS with eligibility for Environmental Systems Mechanic I.
• Refrigeration certificate of at least type 2.
• May require a valid driver’s license and compliance with the University Fleet Safety Program.
• Prefer 2 years of college or trade school.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, replace, troubleshoot, and maintain environmental and HVAC systems.
• Monitor equipment performance with computerized building automation systems and analyze data.
• Coordinate maintenance, operations, and related projects; provide guidance to apprentices and staff.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to ensure reliability and energy efficiency.
